can I get a cab outside of the cruise terminal when we are docked at Kahului in Maui or are they located somewhere else

Yes, you can. There are also shuttle buses from the car rental agencies at dock to take passengers to car rental places off site at airport. Airport is very close. We rented a car and drove over to Kaanapali and had a great time watching whales at Dukes all afternoon. After, Drop off car at car rental places and they take you back to the ship. Works great.
