Getting Cash on Ship

We are on Mariner Nov1 for 44 nights. We will likely need to get cash periodically for on shore. If necessary is there any way to get cash on the ship either via an ATM on board or from Guest Services?

I don’t recall an ATM, but you can get cash (and different currencies) at Guest Services.

There are at least two ways to get cash on the ship. First, each person is entitled to get $400 per segment from the Purser at the Reception Desk. The $400 just goes on your account without any fees. It is not a cash advance for your credit card company but is just part of your combined purchases during your cruise. Note however that the $400 cash received does not offset any shipboard credit you might have. You still have to spend all the non-refundable credit you might have.

Second, using the gift order form on the Regent website, you can send yourself shipboard refundable credit that you can get any time during your cruise. I believe you have until 12 days before your cruise to send yourself shipboard credit.

Agree with Dave but want to add that Regent does not carry cash for all countries. We find that going to a ATM in the country that we are visiting is the easiest way to get money for our onshore excursions. Alternatively, we purchase cash prior to departing on the cruise.

Also realize that when you go to a foreign country and buy something on a credit or debit card, always pay in the local currency of the country you are visiting. The card companies (Visa for example) get one of the most favorable exchange rates available and this is passed on to you. When a shop owner or restaurant asks to settle your transaction in US dollars, they end up receiving all the benefit of the exchange rate and you end up always paying more. Moral: always say, “local currency please”!

This is a ATM card that allows us to get cash no matter where we are in the world. We both have cards so both of us can

withdraw money. It's been on e of the best tings we have done regarding travel. There are ATM machines all over !!!

Knowing your military background, am confident you are a USAA member. We use our USAA Visa debit card for most/almost all ATM transactions when traveling (USAA refunds all ATM fees). During our 40 nite Regent Voyager Grand voyage (early 2017) Sydney to Hong Kong (incl 7 NZ ports) using our USAA debit card was turnkey. Suggest, if you don't have this card you may want to check with USAA and consider it.

Just did some research on USAA ATM fees including contacting USAA and the refunds are only for domestic ATMs and not foreign plus, for foreign ATM withdrawals there is a 1% Visa Foreign Transaction Fee added so net really good to use outside the US.

Most Banks and Brokerage accounts offer Foreign transaction fee free ATM cards to get cash. And they will refund any locally added use fee. (Caveat: These cards usually require a "Relationship Account.")

Charles Schwab - the best! No-fee ATM card with NO FEES period - no exchange rate fees, no foreign transaction fees, no charges imposed by Schwab or a foreign bank's ATM from which you w/draw cash. If there is a fee charged by a foreign back, Schwab refunds 100%.

Best no cost way to get cash overseas from an ATM + exchange rate is nearly the same as that of AmEx and VISA. Example: cash from ATM at 10 am, then lunch at a restaurant charged on AmEx, post-lunch VISA charge at a retail store = no signficant difference in the foreign exchange rate for the 3 transactions on the same day when converting Euros to USD (deducted in USD from the Schwab account).
