Snorkeling - Belize or Roatan

So which has better snorkeling, Belize or Roatan?

Roatan has some pretty good snorkeling right from the beach. Belize has some great snorkeling, but you have to go a pretty good way to get to it.

Ill put a second for Belize. We did an excursion from the boat that took us to a tiny private island with a reef right there. snorkel off the boat then back to the private island for rum punch and more snorkeling off the beach.

We snorkeled in both on our last cruise (August 2017). Belize was by far the better experience.

They both have beautiful snorkeling, BUT Roatan is more accessible on a cruise day. You CAN do a snorkel day in Belize from a cruise but it is better suited to a land trip when it comes to snorkeling. Belize doesn't offer the abundance of ship passenger tours that Roatan does ( ship or private) that Roatan does when it comes to snorkeling. Snorkeling trips in Belize just feel so rushed too =(

We did a snorkel trip years ago in Belize. The operator picked us up off the ship, took us snorkeling, then to Wet Willy's in San Pedro (I think) to grab some food & drink and wander about town. It was a nice trip. We've done scuba diving twice in Roatan through the ship with Anthony's Key Resort. Great trips as well. I say snorkel at both!
