gym to room after 6pm in gym clothes without the wrath of the dress code pack?

hello,

after seeing so many posts about dress code 'opinions' I am just wondering when i am coming back to my cabin at 7.30 or 8pm after a workout - even though i always try and take the least public venue route - will I enrage the dress coders? will i need to protect myself from caviar being thrown at me in protest?

i suppose if i start really training now then i can outrun them?

i have in all honestly been looking at the online levels in maps and plotting a route of 'least resistance' or at least least public areas - but there still seems to be one or two?

just that the threads here seem very 'engaged' on dress codes...........

thanks

bob

I've never seen anyone in transit getting anything on how they're dressed (aside from those that wander around in a robe and flip flops with nothing else on but that seemed thankfully to be an Oceania thing).

The only time I saw the dress code mentioned on the ship was when a bartender reminded a contractor that there was a dress code in place and that no, shorts, tshirt and flip flops would not get you service at the Observation bar at 2000.

believe me i would not be stopping at any bars or for any reason between gym dn cabin. i am one of those that gets really sweaty and red headed during a workout - so want to get to my cabin quickest way possible- and speed walk back to my cabin!.

its just that people on these boards seem very disturbed by protocol on post 6pm dress code - am expecting a country club type to ask me to use service entrance after the gym...

One of us goes to the gym every evening at 7pm (hint, it's not me. :')). Making the trip to and from the gym in gym attire has never been a problem. Avoid the lounges, dining venues, casino and grand salon and you'll be fine.

There's far more ado about the dress codes on these boards than you'll ever see on the ship.

What people object to are those who violate the standards when going to a bar or mainly the restaurant. No one will say a thing about someone passing in the halls coming back from the gym, spa or anywhere else (and the late afternoon is often a good time to hit the gym.) Depending on the cruise, in particular warm weather, there will be folks (often we are part of that cohort) still at the pool or Sky Bar in our day wear well after 6 p.m. and they / we obviously need to return to their suite to get changed.

p.s.I'm assuming this will be your first Seabourn cruise, so take a look at the 'referral coupon' thread which is a sticky at the top of the board. Someone there may be able to offer you a coupon which gives you $400 OBC.

thanks very much all.

i like an evening gym before dinner - and good to know i won't be hissed at in the hallways.

thanks also on referral suggestion. this is indeed my first seabourn- have done a good few royal clippers and azamara, cunard and also tried the big lines - but the big lines and herds are not for me - they make me want to go to a quiet room and sit in the dark....

I too have come back from the fitness center after 6:00 in non-formal attire and did not get any dirty looks. I even stopped at the poolside bar for a fizzy water and it was not thrown in my face. However one bejeweled countess did throw some Champagne and caviar in my direction. She missed. Too drunk, I believe.

ah tv24.... a kindred spirit...

if only we had better mouth-head co-ordination we could catch said bubbles and caviar like a seal....for post workout refreshment...

Don't worry bobtails, you will have the opportunity to practice catching the bubbles and caviar like a seal when you have your Caviar in the Surf day. Even better, it's more of a challenge if you're on a cruise where it's not a beach day but is held in the pool on a moving ship instead.

Sorry to be off-topic, but I've read of alternate locations when you're not on a Carib/beach cruise - is it always the pool deck if you're not able to be in the surf? I'll be cruising Alaska and was curious.....Thanks!

Surf > Pool deck > Theater I believe is the order of preference. In the Caribbean it was in the Surf, in Northern Europe in the Spring/Summer is was the pool deck. In Alaska in May it was in the theater.

This is a great question.

I haven't been to Alaska. I have done a cruise in Northern Europe which probably had a similar climate to an Alaskan summer. The Caviar in the Surf event on that cruise was replaced by Caviar in the Pool.

On Mediterranean cruises it's been held in the pool instead of on the beach for logistical reasons.

I'm not 100% certain that it's offered on every Seabourn cruise, but I've done many and we've always had one or the other, either Surf or Pool events.

Never had one in the theatre. Did the guests wear their swimming apparel ? :D

I've been on loads of Seabourn cruises. Life on board a Seabourn ship has no relationship to 99% of the conversations that take place here on Cruise Critic.

Sure, one can glean some information about cruising from these boards, but it's really more for entertainment purposes. IMO.

I just finished a two week cruise on the Ovation. On a number of days I finished working out in the gym after 6:00 PM and went to the Observation Bar to pick up the special cocktail of the day for my wife while still in the gym clothes and never felt it was a problem. I would not worry about it at all.
