Rubber Boots and/or Poncho for Amazon River Cruise?

A friend is about to depart (mid-May) for an Amazon river cruise with Iberostar. She was recently told that rubber boots are very helpful to wear for walking in the jungle on shore excursions, and that a poncho is also helpful.

For those who have been, is this correct and if so, will the ship provide either of those? She really does not want to have to haul a pair of rubber boots down to South America if possible.

Thanks for any advice.

Just a quick update. My friend just ended up taking an old pair of gym shoes (trainers) and then leaving them behind at the end of the cruise. This worked out well.

She did purchase a poncho while on board, and found this to be very helpful.

She may also want to bring bug spray for the walk/footware. During our walking tour many people suffered nasty ant bites because they came out quickly and were ferocious.

Thanks for the response. My friend said that she used bug spray, and was glad she did.
