Lanyard?

You would be pulled over and given a citation by the fashion police. ;)

So, I'm guessing that wearing a lanyard and a fanny pack at the same time would be a major Faux pas?!

Especially if you come and visit us downunder - a fanny pack would be a whole different thing here :D

Hi all. New to RCI. I know they are not the most "fashionable" thing to wear, but do people wear lanyards for their sea passes? On Disney we were given some to use, but I don't think this is the case here? I saw some cheap on eBay and was debating in getting them. Quite a few of my outfits don't have pockets, so if u don't use a lanyard, how do you carry your pass around? I also thought I read on another post that kids can get them free at the kids club? Thanks all!

We wear lanyards during the daytime. Can be put in a purse or pocket when dressed up. It isn't an either or situation. You don't have to wear the lanyard every time you're out of the cabin. It sure makes it easier to carry when you are in an outfit with no pockets which happens a lot for me.

I use a lanyard during The day when hanging around the ship. I wear it when going ashore also as it is much easier to deal with than a purse when trying to get the Seapass out to "click" out /in at security. Once ashore I may then stick it in a bag or I may just stuff it down my shirt. For years I used the type that needed to have a hole punched in it and guest services did it. For the last few years though I have used the type that have a plastic holder to keep the card in. Then at night I can just unclip the plastic holder to stick in my small evening bag.

Folks shouldn't judge you ....but if they do...they should judge you in your attitude and kindness to others rather than how you dress!

I don't wear my room key around my neck in a hotel....so I don't do it on a ship, either. How do you carry your room key in a hotel? Well, do that on the ship, too! I carry a small purse, with my comb, lipstick, tissues, etc.....don't you need that sort of stuff?

 

Yes...I think it looks tacky and like you're at a convention....maybe that's the look you're going for!

How often do you go from the pool to a meal to rock climbing to ice skating, to just sitting outside enjoying the weather?

While the size and material are similar between a hotel room key and seapass card, and they both open your door, that's where the similarities end.

To answer your question, when I'm in a hotel, my key goes in my wallet. I don't carry a purse. My swimsuits don't all have pockets, so I just carry my room key and set it with my towel. But I don't feel like holding my sea pass in my hand all day.

OP, if you're looking for convenience, use a lanyard. If you're worried about what other people think about how you look, don't.

I am a 19 year old girl, who is fashion conscious- but that does not stop me from wearing a lanyard!

I wear mine during the day on the ship, and put it in my bag when i am onshore. At night time, i put it in my bag- and because of the lanyard, its a lot easier to find!

It also makes it easier to find when its lying around your cabin!

Don't feel pressured either way, some people love them, some people hate them! I have sailed on Princess and Celebrity ships and most people around me also were using them. I will be going on my first RCI cruise this year, and a lanyard will be one of the first things i buy!

honnestly who cares if someone wears a landyard. You are probably never going to see 99.99% or 100% of the people ever again. I have worn one before and it didnt bother me. I think its just because I dont care what others think of me. :rolleyes:

Last cruise I had the landyard but shoved it in my pocket

We received complimentary yellow Allure of the Seas inaugural lanyards on that sailing a few years back. We use it for every cruise.....even on our Disney cruise. :rolleyes:

anyway, its getting tattered, I was hoping for an Anthem inaugural Lanyard, but won't be heading up to Bayonne to get it - guess I'll just give it a bath.

We use lanyards... If you don't great, and I don't care what you think about me.

But, we have collected them at various events over the years- they tend to be part of the free stuff that is given out at sporting events, especially. It's pretty common to see people carry their tickets in clear pockets that hang around their necks.

Car races, hockey championships, homecoming, etc. Keep your eyes out for them.

The ones we use are good convesation starters- they say "Spa Grand Prix".

Just remember if you are in Australia, call your backside your bum and your fanny pack your bum bag, unless you want to cause mass hilarity. A fanny is a different anatomical feature ;)

EBAY and Amazon have 100s of choices from bling, beads,kids and sports. I like to use one while on the ship but never while in port. In the evening it goes in a small bag or my husbands pocket.

Don't worry what others think, do what works best for you

All my pants and shorts have pockets, and I don't have any without them, so I don't really understand the issue. However, perhaps someone in your party might have pockets, and you can ask them to carry your card for your? Pockets have only been around for a few thousand years, so I understand that a few manufacturers may not include them, but you might want to consider avoiding these manufacturers for your cruise attire.

True, but yet women's clothes manufacturers don't seem to have cottoned on to them yet. Most of my lightweight clothes, like shorts, skirts and dresses don't have pockets. This means I either need to carry a handbag around for the sake of something the size of a credit card, or I can wear a lanyard. I travel solo, so don't have anyone else with me that might have pockets.

If people don't want to associate with me because of a lanyard, I'll get over it. Really really quickly.

It's not about judging but about those "silly" tourists! When at home, and going out, you don't wear one, but on vacation you do? Same with a fanny pack, white socks with sandals and all the other "fashions" of a tourist.

I have a pocket in my swimsuit. My kids have a pocket in theirs. I make sure of it. Most people that wear them, will not swim with them, so the real purpose is what? Now pockets, you keep it safe with you.

Honestly, most people will deal with it like they deal with their other id on trips. Ladies will be creative, and or have their man hold it!

It really blows my mind how passionate folks are about OTHERS wearing a lanyard. My guess is the internet is anonymous and allows folks to vent built up frustrations.

Seriously, if someone is that concerned about how I look, they need to get a life! You can spend two hours in front of the mirror and dress to the nines to make sure you look great - but I may still look better than you with only 5 minutes in front of the mirror and a geeky lanyard around my neck!

This is so silly, I don't know why people even care, but I can't help but comment. I wear a lanyard with my seapass during the day because I only want to bring nice clutches for evening, which I obviously do not want to carry around the pool deck. Now can someone on the self-proclaimed fashion police tell me where on my bikini or cover up is there a pocket to put my seapass. Oh, nowhere? Ok. So should I choose some boring khaki shorts instead of a cute pool cover up so I don't have to wear a lanyard? Would that make me look more fashionable/less tacky? Lanyards are convenient if you don't want to carry a purse. You can manage to dress nicely, wear a lanyard, and STILL look less tacky than plenty of people on cruise ships.

I bought a Vera Bradley lanyard at our local Hallmark Store. For other options, the ship's gift shop sold lanyards for under $10.00.

When I was dressed up for formal night, I slipped my room key into my husband's pocket. I hate to carry a purse around the ship.

People will tell you how tacky they look but if you want to wear a lanyard, go ahead and do it. We do and so do hundreds of others no matter what the snobs ... Sorry, well dressed, think.

You should be able to get one free in the casino. We did on the Grandeur and Explorer.

 

As for being "tacky", that's in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't consider walking around a ship carrying a purse, but those of you who want to, go for it. However, be prepared that others may think you're the tacky one. Again, eye of the beholder.

When I say I carry a purse I mean a very small purse with a long strap cross body so I am hands free.

Yes, it's very convenient to have someone else carry your sea pass for you. Especially when you want to order a drink and they have gone to the restroom. Guess you don't wear a speedo to the pool

We are all Diamond and we use a lanyard. I stuff it under my shirt when out in port, in part for security reasons. I wear the lanyard for convenience and LOVE having it handy, especially when heading back onto the ship. If it's not necessary for you, don't wear one. If you think it's tacky, don't wear one. If you think it's better to depend on someone always being at your elbow to fish it out of their pocket, do that. I don't care how you deal with it. You've missed getting to know some great people because you judged them based on a lanyard around their neck. Meanwhile, some really great people didn't miss out on anything by not getting to know a person that judges on such a silly issue or who thinks of themselves as cool or superior. We aren't going on the cruise to impress or to judge others. :D

Your version is classier. I was thinking some kind of nipple tassles that doubled as a card holder. Maybe one could be a card holder, and the other could be a music player.
