KW in a Half Day

Sailing to KW aboard Majesty of the Seas in July. We will be there only a half day (1p-7p, I think) on July 29. We have two kids with us, ages 9 and 7. Are there any beaches we can just be lazy on? We were there in 2017 and did parasailing, which was fun, but that's sort of a been there done that. Pub crawls and Sloppy Joe's are out due to the kiddos.....

Thanks!

There's a small beach at the lower end of Simonton where you can rent chairs and at least splash around in the water and watch the fishing and snorkeling boats go buy. Look for the Jolly II Rover with its big, red sail. There's a small restaurant right on the beach, Lagerheads ---> http://lagerheadsbeachbar.com/

Walk along Front Street and make a left onto Simonton and you are 1/2 block away.

KW isn't really known for it's beaches....they pale in comparison to Caribbean beaches, by a long shot! There's lots of shopping for souvenirs, etc....and the Hemingway house...a trolley tour around the small island....a google search will turn up other options that your family might enjoy.

Fort Zachary was damaged in Irma and is currently very rocky. It’s a pretty setting, but not a very nice beach. Bring water shoes or your kids will not enjoy it there. You need water shoes to walk on the beach and get in or out of the water. While nothing special, Higgs Beach is more sandy.

There is lots to do in Key West other than bar hopping. Your kids might like to climb the Lighthouse, go to the Mel Fisher Museum, visit the free Eco Discovery Center or go to the Butterfly Conservatory. There is plenty to do here without spending time on a very average beach.

The Shipwreck museum is more interesting than we thought it was going to be and they have a small aquarium where they have touch tanks and can even feed the sharks in the large indoor tank.
