Not Many Choices for Freeport??

There does not seem to be too many choices for excursions in Freeport, through the cruiseline (Carnival) or other providers. Does anyone no why?

Any suggestions on what to do while we are there? May Jet Ski?

The reason is that Freeport doesn't have a lot of excursion companies that are big enough to meet the requirements of the cruise ships. Most excursion companies on the island are "1-man shows", which while it creates a great customer experience, doesn't fit into the requirements of the masses coming off the cruise ships. So, all the shore excursions are essentially provided by five companies - Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Forbes Charter, Pat & Diane, UNEXSO and Reef Tours - really the only ones big enough to meet cruise line requirements, and the only ones willing to pay the hefty commissions required by the cruise lines.

That said, there are a whole bunch of independent individual tour operators on the island that would be happy to take you and show you a great time. You just have to find them and contact them on your own instead of going through the cruise line. Let Google be your guide. Group sizes will be inevitably much smaller and more personal with these independent operators than with the cruise line operators. It's not that there aren't many great excursions to do, it's that the cruise ship just doesn't sell all of them, you have to book independently.

interesting and good to know

If you go to Our Lucaya, to the free beach area.. there is a little booth there that has excursions. Very friendly people and easy going. I did the inflatable banana boat ride out in the water for about an hour and it was an amazing way to tour some of freeport from the high seas for a dirt cheap price $25.00. They also have wave runners there, parasailing, and a few other things. I think it was like 60.00 for a half hour on the wave runner, that kinda thing. Still cheaper excursions than Carnival and nice not needing to find a "big company" there to do excursions with. These guys running the excursions are a 2 or 3 man operation.
