Jill,

Yes, I did notice that about our tour. Now I'm thinking, what else are they going to change? Well, they have 3 months to play around with it so we shall see.

Today is our first day at Sea. Looks to be another nice day.

I decide to go to the gym so I get there just a little before 6:00 AM. Only a couple people in the gym, so I hop on a treadmill by the window, so I can watch the sun come up. I look over next to me and see Phil the comic on the treadmill. I stayed on around 30 minutes then did some weights and he was still on the machine.

Gary asked me later if I told him we enjoyed his show, but you don't talk to someone while they are on a treadmill unless I wanted to be responsible for him falling off and missing the rest of the week's shows. So no, I didn't talk to him, but I was impressed that he stayed on the machine so long for a somewhat older guy.

We eat breakfast. Gary gets his eggs over easy , toast and bacon. Their bacon is really good and I normally don't eat bacon. It's crispy, so I did have a few pieces during the week. But they didn't have any English muffins, only in pre made sandwiches, so I had to settle for toast.

They also had this one counter set up with stuff like chocolate smoothies and wheat grass in these little plastic glasses. I had a smoothie one day...pretty good, but no wheat grass..yuck! Did have some prunes everyday and they worked well.

After breakfast we went up to play some mini golf. I started out good, but Gary ended up beating me....again!!
We wander over to the cafe for coffee and to watch the basketball players. I notice this somewhat younger couple engaged in conversation. In other words, this lady was not happy with the poor guy with her. She was complaining that he just wanted to go to the casino and she wanted to do something fun. She yelled at him about everything, then started in on her breakfast. The poor guy just sat there with this look on his face that he was plotting something evil. She was still yelling as we left to explore more of the ship.

Gary went to the Promenade to people watch, so I took a book and went to the solarium to read. It was nice and quiet in there and I got part way thru my book. Went back up to the room and read some more while Gary took a short nap.

We decided to just grab some pizza for lunch and we watched them get ready for the DreamWorks Move It Move It Parade. We have seen it a few times and seemed strange they would have it at lunch time when the kids would want to be in the pool.

They had the typical stuff around the ship. Ice skating (no, not for me) shopping info (been there, done that) Guacamole class (costs money), jewelry making (money again) Sexy man competition ( have one right next to me) So we find some chairs by the back of the ship and watch the water for awhile.

Go back to the room and we have another round of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, body wash and soap. This room steward really keeps me supplied. In fact, by the end of the cruise I took home 24 bottles of the stuff. Some cruises you get nothing and other times only once, but she much have thought we really needed it. So we probably got a total of 30 bottles.

We also had our cookies, 4 bottles of water, a beer, a coke, a sprite and bottle of champagne. At least the fridge was cold enough to keep everything cool.

It's formal night, so here comes the chocolate covered strawberries, nice afternoon snack as we get ready for the night. We didn't have anything shows planned because we have seen them all a few times.

We go to the diamond lounge early and Boardwalk is having a Family Festival with games for the kids. Fun to watch the kids playing with the various blocks, cornhole and hula hoops.

Drinks are flowing and some people are dressed up, but not as many as in other cruises. I think people are getting tired of having to dress up for just a few hours.

After dinner, we decide to ride the Rising Tide Bar and have a couple drinks. One group of people have really outdone themselves dressing up. One guy had on a suit that was light blue with pink flamingos and a tie to match. Then another guy had on this very wild suit that had all these different bright colors and wild designs. That one was my favorite. The whole group had on different type of suits. Not sure where they got them, but they really stood out as fun.

We decided to go back to the photo center to find our pictures. They are suppose to make it easy to find your photos by giving you your own book with the photos in them. We knew we had 2 photos taken, but they weren't in the book. Finally found them on the wall with the rest of the unknown people photos. So we move them to our book. This went on all week. Our photos never made it into the book unless we put them in there.

It was captain's night, so lots of people all over the promenade, so after a while, we just headed back to the room for a quiet night.

Jill,

A day at sea for you to do as much or as little as you wanted. That must have been paradise after your last few weeks at work.

I would have liked to see that group in their crzy get-ups. The one guy's suit sounds like one of the ones they have this season at Kohl's. The one with flamingos on it. They have some others that are bright colors and have tropical themes, like pineapples. Garrett would not wear that EVER.

Change of plans in our travel down there in September. We decided to fly instead. We have all these frequent flyer points from flying Delta to Europe and back and we have barely used them. So, we are going to fly into Orlando and rent a car to visit our friends in The Villages for a week and drive to Tampa the morning of the cruise and drop the car.

The morning of debarkation, we were going to just take a shuttle or taxi to the airport, but the best flight home for us didn't leave until 5:30. Ugh! So we are taking the excursion that morning around Tampa that visits, among other sites, Ybor City, which we have never seen.

That will take up the morning and then get us to airport about 1:00, which will be perfect for getting thru security and getting something to eat.

Becki, I think one of the suits did have pineapples on it. Now that I think about it. I knew there was another suit that I couldn't remember what was on it.

Sounds like a good idea to use your air miles and not have to do all that driving. We still have to reserve our parking, but Gary is having trouble getting the website to work correctly. He may just have to call them and pay when we get there.

My doctor is taking another week off next week, so I will get a little break, but I have to start training a new girl who won't even be helping us that much. She will be working with the trainees.

Day 3...another day at Sea.

Gary wants to take it easy today, so he can do some walking tomorrow. So we go to breakfast at 7:00 AM and there is a small line. Easy to find a window seat and the day looks to be another beautiful one.

Gary goes to the promenade to people watch and I go to the solarium to finish my book. I never get to read a whole book, so I enjoy the quiet, until the fighting couple go past me and guess what? they are still fighting. Or she is yelling and he is just taking it. So make my way back to the promenade to meet up with Gary.

We decide to just have a hot dog at the Boardwalk Dog House. As we are eating, every time this door we are by opens it creates this huge gust of wind and blows everything all over the place. After the first time we are prepared so we don't have to chase our stuff.

We check out the stores and the carousel is open so Gary & I grab a seat on the bench. Not a lot going on family movie Cars 3 in the theater, bingo, art auction, snorkel demonstration and a live appearance by Puss in Boots. We go back to the room and watch a movie.

They have changed the TV stations, so they don't have my weird movie channel any longer, but then we mostly only watched the news and 2 movies the whole trip. I finished my book and took it to the library to donate.

While getting ready for the diamond club, we hear about Kate Spade suicide. They have a Kate Spade store in the promenade and it's been closed. They have a big screen blocking the front door and we find out later that they will be opening around 8:30 PM for a special sale.

So we go early to the diamond club and they are having a family fun night. It's fun to watch the kids playing with the games. We are sitting right by the Boardwalk balconies and we see these two little kids, maybe 8 and 10 climbing on chairs on the balcony and looking over the edge at the kids playing. They look like they are going to fall right off the balcony and no parents in sight. Beatrice, the diamond concierge, immediately calls someone and within a minute there is someone at their door, right after the parent shows up and the balcony and doesn't make the kids get down. After that we only saw them on the balcony one other time. The next day they put up a hammock on their balcony.

Every night they have something different in the Windjammer . Tonight is donut night. They have this whole island just full of all kinds of donuts. Must have been at least 20 different types. They looked a lot better than they tasted, but it was fun to watch. So we had donuts for dessert that night.

The Love and Marriage game is on tonight, plus a country western hoe down dance party and a concert with the singers from Cats. We go to the casino and spend our 6 totens, I think we won .15 cents.

We go back to check out the Kate Spade store and they have this huge line. They will only let about 10 people in at a time. So we wait, then walk in and look around. She has some nice, creative stuff, but at $250 to $ 400, it's way beyond my price range. So we don't buy anything, but lots of people are. Probably figure they will be worth a lot some day.

Tomorrow is St Maarten.

Jill,

That one couple you keep seeing sounds like something out of that show, ' Bridezillas'. Wow. To be that unhappy all the time.
I used to read a lot. I could read a book in a couple of days, especially if Garrett was out of town. But now, I can only read if he is gone, to the church or somewhere else for awhile. He just loves to tell me about something he is reading. I will go back to what I'm reading and 10 seconds later, he will do the same thing. I end up reading the same paragraph 3 times.

Man, that makes me crazy when I see kids doing stuff like you saw with the balcony and the parents seem unconcerned. It's a wonder the kids made it to 8 and 10.

That donut night sounds neat. Garrett would like that. Too bad they didn't taste better , but he probably wouldn't care.

I am interested in hearing about St. Maarten, as we will be going there in Oct.

Hi Guys,

Becky really enjoyed your review.

Beau, you trip with the doggy sounds outstanding. More please.

Jill, there is a guy screen name cruising Rick who always cruises on royal Caribbean and does live reviews here on cc.
For years he has worn those types of suits in his reviews. Guess they caught on.

I will have to check out cruising Rick. I had never seen such colorful suits, they made everyone smile.

Becki, I know what you mean about the donuts. I hardly ever eat them, but they looked pretty and would have been fine for Garrett. I like donuts to have a filling and only around 2 of them did.

Wow, Gary, I am loving those suits! I think you would look good in one of the super hero ones. I favor the Flamingo one for Garrett with shorts!

Day 4 is St Maarten. We haven't been here in a long time. Tried to go last October, but that was before the hurricane so wanted to see what was left and how far they have come. We have a whole day here from 8:00 until 5:30.

Our tour starts at 9:00 AM, so we have breakfast. The Windjammer is busy today. But only about 15 people ahead of us, so we still get our window seat. Another beautiful day, party cloudy and high of about 85.

We get off the ship as soon as we can we find the line for our tour. We start talking to this younger couple behind us and they are so cute. First time without the kids. I know Gary is worried about the long walk to the buses. Pretty soon he is talking to this tram driver and has arranged a ride to the buses.

So we hop on the tram and make it all the way to the bus. It would have been a long walk and the tour would have been half over by the time we made it all that way. Only costs a tip of a couple dollars each. Soon we are waiting for the rest of the tour. But we get first pick of the seats. Always pick the right side, because that's where all the action is.

This tour combines both the Dutch and French side and runs about 3 hours. Our tour guide is quite good and we get to see how far the island has come. Some places still had some damage, but they have really come a long way to fix things up. Still some houses with no roofs and some with no walls.

We stop at this small plaza on the French side. We remember this place and there was one side that still was facing some repairs. Our stop here is about 30 minutes, so we walk around the craft area and run into our friends from the bus line. She is happy shopping. They have some cute things, but nothing that I have to have, so we walk by the little food area and remembered that we got a beer the last time for only a dollar. Prices haven't changed much.

They also have a shopping center that you can walk around in, but I remember it didn't have a lot in it but jewelry stores and t shirts and its a little walk away, plus they charge you to use the bathroom...no thanks, I'll pee in the streets like the rest of the locals.
It starts to sprinkle a little bit, so we make our way back to the bus.

Next stop is this place that sells ice cream and has a huge carousel that you can ride on for free. We have one on the ship, so we get ice cream instead. There is this huge line, but they have so many unusual flavors that it gives me time to decide. Gary asks me to find out how much it is. It's $4 for a small, very small cup and $9 for a large cup. He thought I said it would be $9 for both of us.

He gets a large lemon and I get a small licorice and he trys to pay with $10. Reminds me of the taxi ride in Costa Maya, Becki. Anyway, the ice cream was really good. I check out the bathroom, nice, clean and free. Soon it's time to leave, but our bus is blocked in by two other buses. They have to do some manuvering, but finally get us out.

Next stop is the beach that is right on the airstrip where people try to hang on while the airplanes land. We didn't stop, but got a good look at where all the action takes place. Made a couple more stops for photo shoots.

One area has this huge climb to get to the top to see the whole area, but it's has a lot of rocks and stones and the guide says to NOT go up because it's very dangerous. Of course, people just had to do that just because they were told not to. So stupid!!

We drive by Orient Beach, that's the nude beach, but they said that some of the beach got destroyed and they were trying to repair it. We weren't close enough to witness any wang this time.

All in all the island has made a big step to repair itself and we were quite happy with our tour. It was only $23 and well worth the price. Gary managed to track down another tram and we made it safely back to the ship.

The Diamond club was not quite so busy tonight and it's Caribbean Night at the Windjammer. Lot of stuff that looked hot, jerk chicken, etc so I did manage to find another piece of fish. Spicy things are not often my friends. We did find the dessert bar again...darn it!!! I'll be lucky if I have something that fits me by the end of this cruise.

We have reservations for the headliner show called Private Stock. Its a tribute band that recreates some of the greatest moments in rock concert history, but we are really not feeling rock music tonight, so we skip the show.

We wander the ship for a while and they have TV and music trivia, guacamole making class, Brazillan music in the jazz club and a concert in Central Park.

We have an early tour tomorrow in San Juan, so off to bed we go.

Jill,
That sounds like a good tour, similar to the one we took our first time to St Maarten back in the 80's. I don't know what tours Viking will offer, but we have a pretty hefty OBC, so I think we will be spending it on excursions.

So funny you said that about the ice cream. As soon as I read that Gary tried to pay with a $10, I flashed back to that cab ride.

Nice that you and Gary could get the tram ride to & from the bus to the ship. Garrett hired a pedicab at the pier in Cozumel to take us to the shopping area after I had fallen on the snorkel boat and smashed my face and banged up my knee. All the guy wanted was tips. Nice.

Jill, St Marten is my favorite island. How is down town? Did the shops survive?

Years ago we were on Oriente beach just beautiful, nice bar, loungers and umbrella, water toys ect. He dropped us off at a place on the beach that was mostly people from the cruise ship. I looked up and a man is walking along the water wearing only sun glasses and carrying a beach bag with our ship logo on it. Two young girls were playing in the sand and looked shocked. lol. Very brave man, as I have parts of me that has never seen the sun and I plan on keeping it that way.

Thanks for the memory.

Grace,

So sad, isn't it, that so many of the people that go topless or bare all are the ones that really should cover it all up?

Grace, from what we could tell downtown looked pretty good. I think they work on the places that tourist see first and the poorer sections of the island are the last to get fixed.

We went to Orient beach on a tour and only had a short period of time on the beach. We ate lunch first and by that time the beach loungers were all gone. So we found a place on the sand. We were one of those people that you don't want to see nude. They had places from the main section with signs warning people not to travel unless you want to see something you might not be able to unsee..... We just walked up the beach for a short distance and came back. This time we really didn't get to go right onto the beach, just drove by on the bus.

Jill,

Cute sign, only in the islands. In Jersey if you were nude they would lock you up. You can not even wear a thong style bathing suit. Which I think you can in Florida.

Glad to hear the island is bouncing back as I said it is my favorite. But now I have added Aruba to that list.
Would love to do the Navigator again same itinerary.
