Just off the Triumph any questions?? ( My review inside)

We just got off this cruise July 29th and port was amazingly simple. Drove right up to parking garage, paid, they unloaded bags, parked, went right to the line. Getting off the boat was even easier! Didn't even have to wait for our time. I was pleasantly surprised at how organized and easy everything was.

We did eat at the Taste Bar on Both of the Sea Days. The tasting bar is a small bar open by the casino (Deck 5) on sea days that lets you sample appetizers from the different specialty restaurants that Carnival has. On this cruise we got to sample from the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and from Cucina Del Capitano. These samples were very taste and I liked the fact that we could try food from the specialty restaurants for no charge.

The Steakhouses sample was a short rib croquet and a spiced pumpkin soup. The croquet was very good with a hint of spiciness. The pumpkin soup was very thick so I had just a sip just to say well I tried it. We are not pumpkin people at all.

The Cucina Del Capitano offered a spiced meatball with fresh Mozzarella cheese on top and a Bruschetta french bread item both were very good. So much so we went back and got a second sample.

Interesting that they offered samples from these restaurants since they don't have them on this ship. On the Valor this past December they only had samples from the restaurants located on the ship, even though they were no additional cost like Blue Iguana Cantina. I'd like to try something from Cucina and Bonai Sushi.

I usually see food from restaurants not on the ship at the taste bar. Heck Elation doesn't have any restaurants so it wouldn't have a taste bar otherwise.

Ditto! Never cruised on the Triump but several times on the Dream out of NOLA. Never had any problems with embarkation, always quick an easy

Thanks so much for posting this; my husband and I are sailing on Triumph on September 2. I do have two questions. We have the first embarkation time slot and I am wondering which food outlets will be open as soon as we board? Second question is about the slide by the pool - is it open, and does it let out into shallow water or do you need to be a swimmer to use it? I can't swim but I want to try it. Thanks!

No surprise about the port. We've come to expect an intimidating, confusing, and frustrating experience at ports. We are trying to figure out were we're going to park in town because I refuse to drive to, or park at, the port!

Hi, I just saw this and it does not look like you've received a reply that I can see. We had FTTF and earliest embarkation, which put us onboard around 11am. We did go straight to our cabin and settled in for maybe 15-30 minutes and then headed up to Guy's Burger Joint which was open and not yet crowded. According to my Fun Times, the Lido Buffet, Blue Iguana, and Seafood Shack (extra fee for that one only) were also open. The Twister slide does not drop you into a pool at all so you don't need to be a swimmer. It just levels out at the end and you step out of it.

We parked at the Fulton Place Garage which is a short shuttle ride from the port and about half the cost; it was adequate for the price.

Same for me as well. I get back on the Triumph at the end of September so I'm hoping it's just as smooth.

Food:

Service in the MDR was on the slow side most night especially the first night. I also found that service was also very slow the two times we ate in the MDR for Sea day breakfast. Sea Day can use some new choice when it comes to breakfast its been the same for at least the last 5 years..

We did eat at Guy Burger 4 or 5 times the whole cruise it was great. No real complaints just that the lines for a burger went on for days every day.. It seemed like there was never a time when there was no line.

We also ordered room service two nights after coming in late around 2am both times when calling to room service there was a 15-20min hold before you could even place your order and then there was another 20 min wait to get your food. The free items on room service have declined but they do offer some pretty good options for the food with a service charge.

Service was a bit slow for dinner on our Triumph cruise as well, or at least it seemed so to us. It took one hour, 40 minutes each of the two nights we ate in the MDR. Because of that, DH preferred that we zip through the buffet the other 3 nights.

Our spring break sailing was slap full, nearly every berth occupied and while Guy's was always busy, we never waited more than 5 minutes for a fabulous burger.

We only tried room service one morning for the free continental on our Progreso day; it did not come at the requested time; we called and they were very nice but terribly backed up as they said it seemed everyone aboard had asked for the same time. . . so we cancelled the order and just ran up to the Lido buffet and grabbed a fast bite.

You make good points about these dining details and this is the kind of stuff that really irks a lot of people, though food is not something we get worked up about.
