OBC and Gambling

Although I've been on several Cunard voyages I have never once used the casino, believe me I have nothing against gambling but I just haven't done it.

We have a TA next year with ample OBC attached to it, more then we probably will spend on the normal things and...if it's possible...we may want to hit the casino. So that's my question, can you gamble using OBC?

If you can, how does it work? Again, I've never been in the casino before so I don't know what to do.

Do you put your card into the slot machine for example to start gambling? If you win does it go back into your account and if it does how do you cash out (since I know OBC is it a use or lose it situation).

Sorry for all the questions but hopefully someone can help me with this! thanks.

I don't know either, but perhaps the FAQ might answer your question: https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/life-on-board/casino

Lots of experience playing blackjack in the casino. No, you cannot use your OBC to cover your gambling. As to your questions about the machines, can't help you there. But I can tell you that Cunard is very generous about allowing purchases of casino chips charged to your on-board account with no extra percentage fees charged. This is generous and unusual in the cruise industry. Thus you don't have to carry cash on board to gamble with.

Hi Cruise NH. The casino on QM2 is the only casino my husband and I have -what's the term- played? We don't understand slot machines, so we don't play the slots, but we do enjoy playing cards at home, although playing cards (blackjack, poker) at the tables in the casino often includes professional and semi-professional gamblers- well out of my league.

On QM2, we find it a lot of fun to play roulette. We play for small stakes, so we usually just break even. But we enjoy the camaraderie of our fellow passengers whilst playing (unless someone goes overboard in their betting - pardon the phrase).

You might find it fun to study the rules of the games in the casino before your trip. But feel free to just observe the games in the casino. It's especially fun on formal nights

The dealers and pit bosses can also be helpful in teaching the ins and outs of the games, especially if it's not busy. Quiet times are at the end of the afternoon and the early evening; very few players and the workers may be eager to break their boredom by giving lessons to newbies. There are also formal lessons given and that schedule is posted in the daily bulletin.

On board credits cannot be used in the Casino or on a Medical bill.

On using the slot machines, You will have to register your cruise card by inserting it into the machine and setting a pin code. You can either charge your account for $10 up or use cash. Any winnings are put onto the card - in the bank- you can use this for future visits to the slots or cash out each night.

The confusing thing is that whilst they take your stake from your card (i.e. room account), they don't pay it back to it.

So I started playing slots and ended up about $20 up. So I pressed the "cash out" button and the credit in the machine then showed zero. But it does not return to you card. It's held in an account that you have to collect from the cashier.

When my room account arrived after the first few days it had all the casino charges on but none of the cash outs. I assumed maybe they just put it back at the end of the cruise. But on the last day's daily programme, it said to collect any winnings you had. Oddly, I was just about to do that when they rang our room to remind me to collect my money. So then I had about $60 or so in dollars which was not very convenient.

It's odd that they can take the money from your card but not credit any winnings back.
