CaptainJane Posted April 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2014 Hello, Just curious - do they use the ship horn that late at night? 10pm departure. First time taking our kids and they are asking if they will hear it when we leave. Thanks! :p
Dirkgun Posted April 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2014 The last 3 times I sailed out of San Juan they did blow the horn. It is only 10:00 pm and San Juan is a party place. Enjoy your cruise. we do it again in January of 2015. It is the best itinerary IMHO.

kybluecruiser Posted April 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) Yes it will all ships do. They do it to alert other ships they are moving and wich direction they are going. one short blast: “I am altering my course to starboard” two short blasts: “I am altering my course to port” three short blasts: “I am operating a stern propulsion” five short blasts: “I am in doubt about your action taken to avoid collision” one long blast: “I am nearing a bend where another vessel may be obscured by an intervening obstruction” Edited April 11, 2014 by kybluecruiser
abisha Posted April 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2014 yes..and if another ship is next to you, they might "respond" and do same, and everyone cheers! It's a lot of fun!

Carnival Beerleader Posted April 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2014 I see others are saying yes, but I don't ever remember the horn blasting that late any time I've been there. A lot has changed since 1996
Aplmac Posted April 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2014 Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. By the time Valor leaves at 10 p.m. (-or later 10:25 one night I was there) the other two cruise ships over on the other side of the harbor are long gone so there's no warning-toots necessary but... If you're ever up on the forward superstructure (Sky Deck 14 near the waterslide) when they blow that horn, it'll jump you out of your skin!! As you look back to see where the fright came from you realize... ...that you're right in line with said horn mounted in that big hole at top center of the funnel! . tl12356 Posted January 24, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2015 I would rather my captain blast his horn as much as he likes.... Better than him dancing with a some ballerina.:D
