Suite Hierarchy....

I have no idea what the status of the suites has to do with your grandchildren. When we took them on a cruise in the Royal Suite, everyone, from the captain on down, would stop us to tell us how truly precious our little angels were. But, that was because it was true!

The CS Suites on the Soltice class definitely do not have a large sitting room! They have a wrap around sofa (it just fits) and another chair. The bedroom is also very small. There is no dining area at all, except for the balcony which can be large on the hump. The RS has a proper living room and a dining area, seats six. The bedroom is much larger than the CS. The main bathroom has a tub and a separate shower. The balcony is the shortcoming as it has a “bathtub” type jet with jets taking up too much room, a single lounge chair and a dining table.

I take it you didn’t read my post all the way to the bottom when I said the sky suites seemed roomier due to the furniture in the CS and RS

Apologies it is meant to read 1,5 times the size of a balcony cabin.

That is how that post reads but I think the intended meaning was that a Sky Suite is "half again" as large as a standard cabin, i.e. 1.5 times as large as a standard cabin. Actually it is a little larger than that. On most S-Class ships, standard cabins range from 177 to 194 sq. ft. and Sky Suites average 300 sq. ft.

Thank you!

That has been my experience.

We have never cruised in a Solstice Class CS, but I have visited several. No view of the outside from the bedroom is enough for me to avoid them.

I have stayed in a SS1 and RS and I find the RS significantly roomier. I assume you are basically saying that if you are only in the RS bedroom without the living space, closets, and bathrooms, that RS bedroom only has less space than the SS1 bedroom plus living space. I would agree, Celebrity could have made the living space slightly larger and removed the second closet to make the bedroom larger. My SS1 experiences have been corner aft cabins.

Bo- for non-premium suites, I really like Solstice Class corner aft S1 Sky Suites. I also really like M-Class S1 Sky Suites on the mid ship bump outs. These two types of suites have very nice balconies. One of my favorite suites is the M-Class CS suite mid-ship. A lot of space but a somewhat narrow balcony. Perhaps it will be enhanced with the upcoming Revolution!

I have always said that the CS space would be much better as a single room rather than creating a room within the room. It would be so much more open and useable. The bed is crammed into a small space and you cannot pass anyone in it. The RS bedroom is slightly bigger but not much. The CS lounge would be fine if it didn't have a huge coffee table which reduces the walk round area to around a foot all round. Far too tight for my liking but I do keep booking these rooms.

We have mostly done the aft corner SS1s as well. They work fine for us but cupboard space is a bit limited especially if we are on for 3 weeks.

I am looking at the deck plans, now. I don't see a S1 on the bump outs on any deck. I see the larger suites. Could you give me a stateroom number to clarify where you mean? :)

I agree. A good suggestion. Perhaps they should higher us as consultants for future designs.

I do think the current CS and RS designs are geared towards having 3 or 4 people in the cabin.

Wine-O has always says that he likes the SS2 because it has more storage, which is true. But when staying in a Sky Suite, I cannot force myself to give up the corner aft cabins with the extra window.

A few years ago we met a can always architect who did consulting for Royal Caribbean and he said the when the Solstice ships were designed that they suggested the the CS would be a 1 room space but Royal did not think it would sit well with the US market.

The old AQ suites on the Reflection are now SS1s with the extra storage it are not under the Ocean view. We found them good. There are some of them on the hump.

Well, I don't know about the rest of the US market, but we really like having a separate bedroom where one person can turn out the lights and close the door to sleep in quiet darkness while the other person is up and about in the living room area.

That works especially well for a couple when one is an early bird and the other is a night owl, or when one wants to nap in the middle of the day and the other doesn't.

What they call a sky suite is not really a suite, (a group of rooms) but only a larger cabin that comes with a butler and additional perks.

We really like the Celebrity Suites on the M-class ships -- except for those horrible, dangerous bathtubs.

On S Class we have enjoyed a variety of Suites.

We felt the CS was the most comfortable for seating and relaxing and enjoyed this the most.

The SS/former AS are very roomy real estate and very comfortable.

Least enjoyed by us was the RS.

I haven’t interest in anything more than that.

Waiting for Edge, waiting to see service levels and if they can match some of the competitions on the Ship within a Ship approach that so far doesn’t exist on Celebrity and that we have come to enjoy elsewhere.

I'm curious if you can give some more details about your opinion. We have only sailed in SS's in the past and are in a CS coming up on the "slant" on Equinox. We've really been looking forward to a separate bedroom, 2 entrances to the bathroom, more seating in the living room and in this case the extra room on the balcony as my DW really enjoys reading on a lounger and looking out at the sea. We really don't care about waking up and seeing the ocean, as we wake at different times and being the early riser, I head down to Café Al Bacio to grab some coffee's and then enjoy them either on the balcony, or looking out from the couch while my DW sleeps in. After reading everyone's opinion that basically says the CS layout is not to there liking (I'd like to be more blunt, but afraid I'll be censured) so I've been wondering if we made a mistake and should have spent $2-3,000 more for a RS. I know we would enjoy the in suite dining table and the bar set-up, but it just didn't seem to be worth that much more for our first step up from a SS.

Since it sounds like you've been in a SS, CS and RS and you like the CS the most can you explain your thoughts some more? I'd like some confidence in the choice we've made

We've been in a SS, CS and RS and found the CS to be just fine.

The CS was our 1st step up from a SS on both the M and S class ships. We have since moved up to a RS but the price difference can be considerable more than $2K or $3K

We were not put off by the lack of a dining table in the CS. When we ordered room service we used the table on the balcony, which is dining table height, or the coffee table in the living room. Yes, there is not much room to walk around the sofa and table, but the sofa is quite comfortable to lounge on, more so than the sofa in the RS. We requested a 2nd lounger for the balcony and there was still plenty of room out there. In the RS the jetted tub takes up so much room that a 2nd lounger is doable but awkward for walking around. The 2nd entrance to the bathroom is nice, especially if one party is sleeping. The bathroom is smaller, with a combo tub/shower and only 1 sink, which does lack counter space.

If a RS was not available on a cruise we really wanted to take we would not hesitate to book a CS as long as it was on a S class ship. (The bathroom on the M Class makes it a no go for us.)

There are some good pictures of the CS on CC, here's the link:

Ahhh, thank you. The description said "mid ship bump outs" so I was looking at the mid ship bump out, not the aft section of the ship. ;)

Are there any photos of these suites?

Sorry for the less than accurate location. The bump outs are toward the aft. We have in particular stayed in 6131 on Connie and 6132 on Summit. These are S1's with very large balconies.

You have summed up my feelings exactly for the CS on M-Class. Maybe they will fix the bath tub situation on the refurbished version? I'm wondering also if they will give them a larger balcony too?

We have found that Celebrity provides an excellent Suite experience for all suite guests. We have enjoyed Royal Suites on Century, Reflection, Solstice and Constellation, Celebrity Suites on Constellation and Silhouette, the “old” Sky Suites on Century and Galaxy and more recently SS1 suites on Equinox, Eclipse and Reflection.

We have just enjoyed 2 weeks in a CS on Silhouette, and loved the angled balcony and found that the sitting room had oodles of room for the 2 of us, with plenty of space to get round and lots of storage for everything. Our butler and room steward were superb and second guessed my every need! And the Michael’s Club folks had my drink to hand as soon as I walked in!

We found the RS on Constellation earlier this year to be more to our liking than the RS last year on Reflection, in particular that the “balcony bathtub “ jacuzzi on Reflection was a waste of space, whereas at least you could use it on Constellation!

The Suite Life is indeed sweet on Celebrity!

That's right! I had forgotten about them. Never been in one.

We have been in (just visited) a Reflection Suite, which is tops, larger than the Penthouse on the Reflection ship.

That has not been our experience when in MC and staying in a Sky Suite.

And interestingly, we have been escorted onboard the ship, and to Michael's club almost each time we have stayed in a SS (and were even taken to the head of the bus line in Dublin when staying in an SS.) :o

We've never had an escort onto the ship while staying in a SS. We first experienced that in a RS on Equinox. How was it that you came upon an escort? Were you approached or given pre-boarding instructions as to whom to see for this? Just curious. We're in S2 on Edge in March. Just wondering if they are adding this for all suite guests kinda like NCL does with Haven guests.

If the Retreat Experience on Edge is not similar to that of The Haven, we won’t sail. The only reason we are coming back is because our understanding is that it will be similar or exceeding.

I think you have gotten some good objective replies so far, I’d concur with what others have found favorable about the CS on SClass ships.

In particular we found them to be right sized for us and we enjoyed the sectional for evening relaxation.

The RS felt a bit awkward, the table was large and since we don’t dine in our cabin but for breakfast sometimes, and it was just the two of us, it was not important to us to have. The living room arrangement was nice, but the CS felt more intimate and physically comfortable to us.

Either way you can’t go wrong trying them all!

Sorry, let me rephrase.

The following was our Eclipse experience in Dublin this past May when staying in an S1:

When we checked in, an escort was called over. She then took us past a hundred or more passengers waiting for their boarding number to be called. She walked us out onto a parking lot where we boarded a bus that took us from the luggage drop off/check-in building over to the ship. When we arrived at the ship, we were told that our rooms were ready (It was after 1:00.) We dropped our luggage off and went to Luminae for lunch.

Our previous Sky Suite experiences have been:

At check-in, we are handed a colorful laminated card (approx. 4"x 6".) Then we are told to board the ship. An escort has come up, greeted us, and taken us up to MC until the staterooms are opened. Or if we wish, we go to Luminae for lunch.

About 4 years ago (I don't believe that Sky Suites were included in MC at that time), I took a cruise with my two daughters. We were staying in the SS that is attached to the Penthouse on the Connie. After we checked-in, we were told to go on and board the ship. Once again, passengers were sitting around waiting to board. Immediately after "dinging" our cards, a crew member came up and asked us if we had THE red card. We were confused, as we did not have one. They asked for our names and stateroom number, checked a list, and said that we would be escorted to our stateroom. However, we wanted to go straight up to the OVC as we had not had breakfast. So we declined the escort.;)

FYI - I think that things are going to be VERY different all the way around for the Edge sailings. We will probably have wrist beepers to tell us what, where, when, and how we are suppose to do everything, including when to use the bathroom, etc. :D

Perhaps it will be enhanced with the upcoming Revolution!

t - thank you for this, as 'non-premium' suites are the way I want to go, for now, until asked to up-grade further and have to work another few years to continue to afford it... LOL

bon voyage

Well I guess we will all soon find out once the reviews start pouring in. We haven't had the Haven experience yet but will have a comparison once we sail in November.
