Any update on cruises scheduled to leave from Puerto Rico?

Yes that is the flight we were on from philly on A A.

That would wind up costing more than the cruise if we switched to flying into Bonaire and home from St Kitts.

Would wind up with a 5 day cruise and pay the additional airfare.

I know it would, but it would be so much less stress! In any case, I decided to follow your lead and switched our tickets to the 21st. We will be on the same flight as you. Or will receive the same cancellation email as you at some point, maybe. Time will tell. Good luck to us.

It's very important for those of you sailing from P.R. to know the situation. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/10/01/puerto-rican-ceo-sends-engineers-to-help-fema-efforts-calls-local-pols-inept.html

I am hopeful that the U.S military will take over the P.R. island in the short term, to facilitate food and water to the residents, in the near-term

For myself, I am willing to gamble on a near-term cruise. But if I had a family/children, then no, do not cruise out of P.R., it is a bankrupt country, crime-ridden, and now communications are hampered and everything is a gamble. If you are cruising out of P.R., switch your flight to same-day. Don't arrive early. If you are truly concerned about your family's welfare, eat the cost and change your cruise date. Many of us in southern U.S. are absorbing costs from hurricanes in 2017. Sometimes you get dealt a bad hand.

I've been following this thread for a while. My fearless prediction is we'll get an update from Royal on the 10/7 sailing by the end of the business day (ET) today. Their last update was Friday. Carnival promised an update "soon" on the rest of their October sailings out of San Juan. That was on Thursday, so that might be coming today also.

Since then we've gotten some good news - the airport now has had their power restored and flights are slowly but surely returning there. We've also gotten some bad news - many (if not most) of the major hotels won't be open by the 6th, and there still aren't any international flights in or out.

It looks like Royal's Adventure OTS is bound and determined to be the canary in the coalmine of cruises out of SJ. I hope it works out for them.

You should turn off Fox News and open an encyclopedia. PR is not a country, it is part of the USA. It is indeed in dire financial straits, not unlike some states.

My guess is that this week's 10/7 cruise will be cancelled or allow cancellations. ( Prob Weds). I am guessing after that the sailings will be a "go". Just my predictions!!! May be way wrong though![emoji51]

I tend to agree with you. There simply aren't enough flights still to fill the ship on the weekend, nor are there enough hotels open yet. I do note that RCL changed the language on their last update, which to me suggests they might be open to dealing with people on an individual basis. I suspect if people cannot get there, they will allow them to switch to another cruise but will not give a refund. It's financially more favorable to them and maybe protects them from another class action like the one activated after Hurricane Harvey in Houston. Here is the language I mean; it was added at the end of last week:

We understand that limited hotel availability in San Juan may cause you to alter your travel arrangements. Airlines are being flexible with waiving change fees, so please check with your carrier, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Has the curfew been modified? I see restaurants that were only serving until 6:30 (due to curfew) are now listing on social media that they are serving until 9:00 pm.

Also, I have heard from a very reliable source that most banks are now open even though some are operating with generators.

According to the Guardian, the curfew remains but it appears to have been changed to 9pm

Following the news concerning the conditions on the ground at the various Caribbean Islands it is obvious that just from what we are being told on the different networks we CAN"T possibly predict what ports will be open or what there will be at those ports in the way of tourism.

I hope and am pretty sure all the cruise lines have boots on the ground and have a much better sense of the reality of the unfolding situation rather than just what is privy to us from media sources.

This is one huge bowl of lemons for the cruise industry and that they are all doing their best, which may or may not satisfy all, to make lemonade.

I hope whatever they do will be best for the devastated lives of those on the Islands as well as for their passengers..

Curious about sailing times. From several articles I've read the ports around the island are open for daylight traffic. With the cruise ships leaving at night in the dark will they have to wait until the channel is cleared by some? authority or would they possibly change departure times?

If they make the departure time earlier that makes arriving the day of even more difficult. I just don’t think the airport capacity is great enough yet for a cruise turn over day.

First, PR filed for bankruptcy but not accepted since they could not legally apply for it. They are US Territory with american citizens. the US appointed an Outsight Board to make financial decisions and not their local Government. To much corruption involved. The port is still closed and used for vessels supplying help to PR. They still do not have 95% of the power and since the grids is the one that was destroyed, it is taking some time to restore, maybe months. The airlines are mainly flying in to bring volunteers in and getting people out. They are cancelling a lot of flights as needed. The goal is they are trying not to add more people into the island because there is no hotels etc. National guards and volunteers have taken most.

As for the crime, unfortunately there is a lot of assaults and rapes. They are desperate and assaulting fuel trucks and people for gas. This week we were able to bring back some young girls that their parents work for the power company and were assaulted the night before. Been 15 and 21 they could not leave them at home alone. So my husband works for the airlines and we flew them out to relative in Georgia and Orlando.

Nothing is open and they ran out of food at the stores. It is a sad situation.

From what I see RCCL is doing a great job allocating their cruises. Remember it is not only just RCCL and it is not just Puerto Rico. It is many islands. So they have to work slowly and smart for the safety of everyone.

I just called the AC Hotel to confirm my reservation at the end of the month. The hotel is open and are they are "awaiting our arrival." The gentleman I spoke with there said that most of the Condado area had power back. Things are getting better day by day and he expects that San Juan will be pretty much back to normal by the end of the month. He told me that the only thing that was still difficult are the lines for gas. It can still take up to four hours, which is better than what it was just days ago.

We had reservations there for the 20th but last Thursday they told us they were closed and didn't know when they would be open again. We just cancelled Saturday.

It's a step in the right direction.

Many of you may be more savvy than I am and already know this, but I thought I'd pass along a great piece of advice I just received. Rather than checking the website of your hotel, see if they have a Facebook page. My small B&B in San Juan has one and it is updated! (The website is NOT.) If your hotel is not listed on the Puerto Rico Tourism website, you may get info on their FB page. Obviously, if your cruise is VERY soon, calling is probably the better option. My cruise isn't until February, and I was hesitant to call when they have more urgent concerns right now. But I was also worried about waiting too long and having no other options! Happy to report that our inn suffered minimal damage and is fully operational. At least that's one less thing to worry about! Wishing everyone the best of luck!!

We're traveling on Adventure of the Seas Oct. 28-Nov. 4th. We had hotel reservations at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino, arriving on Thursday, Oct. 26th. Last night I called the hotel to discuss our reservations. A supervisor informed me that they are still taking it one day at a time and to call 2-3 days prior to arrival to see if our room would be available. That would be cutting it real close so we made the decision to change our flights and arrive early Saturday afternoon. American Airlines changed our flights and waived the $200 ticket change fee. This morning I called the Sheraton to cancel the room reservation. She informed me that all reservations for Oct. are being canceled without any charges or fees. I had a very nice conversation with the Sheraton Rep. She stated that the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico has power but the rest of the island does not. She stated that there are very long lines at stores and gas stations. The people who live in the mountains have not had access to food or gas in several days as roads are still blocked. We in good conscience did not feel comfortable going two days early to play tourists with their current conditions. We are flying out of Charleston with a layover in Miami. If you are on this same cruise and are considering altering your travel arrangesments, I would suggest you do it soon as the plane we're on from Miami to PR only has about a dozen seats left.

New update from RC just posted. No new info. They claim 10/7 is still on.

Just FYI.

You beat me to it :D. It's interesting that previously they had wording along the lines of 'we're monitoring the situation.....' regarding the 30 September cruise before they cancelled it. Now the update is just about port changes so it seems they are determined to press on with the 7 October cruise.

Apparently, passengers have been told that if their hotel is closed and they arrive a day early, they can stay on the ship since it will already be there. Also, passengers will be driven from the airport to the ship by Royal Caribbean free of charge. That might seem nice to the passengers but I’m not exactly sure how Royal Caribbean thinks this helps the people of Puerto Rico at all if their passengers never come into contact with them long enough to spend money. This seems to be more about RCL not giving refunds than anything.

That is either cruel to keep stringing the 10/7 people along' date=' or irresponsible if they actually go through with it.[/quote']

I am on 10/14 and the joy of a vacation has been replaced by stress and anger at RCI for dragging this out. At this point I am resigned to this cruise and cannot believe I am saying resigned. I cannot just cancel because I cannot afford to lose the money. I would rebook in a hot minute another cruise if RCI would just cancel. Trying to get a handle on the situation is how I am going to attempt to cope. I think the situation in SJ is somewhat between " the sky is falling " and everything is just fine. As far as SJ metro area, I think things are greatly improved. They did not get the damage like the rural areas. It is also the capital and gov seat so I imagine help was rapid. The airport seems to improve daily. I have been called negative on here so for my own sanity I am thinking this way right now. At this point I just want to get off the plane and get to the ship
