Blown away by CCL customer service

I don't care what any of the keyboard warriors of CC say, Carnival's customer service is second to none!

I agree, whether it be on the phone or on the ship, they have always been very helpful for me.

Glad to see a positive post for a change.

Just an FYI, and possible suggestion for others that might have a large balance left on their account. Instead of waiting to receive the gift cards at all when you get home, it is easy peasy to just go to Cherry On Top and buy gift cards with your sail and sign account.

We ended up with just over $100 on our account one time and I just went and bought a $100 Carnival Gift card the day before we were getting off, this just left a few dollars I left to go to St. Jude.

But if you do as suggested, aren't you limited to spending it on a future cruise? I prefer the idea of opening up a casino account, putting the balance of the S&S account in to play with, playing one "pull", and then pulling my card and cashing out. Nothing beats the cold, hard cash!

I think there's a big difference between the customer service you get from Guest Services while on the vessel and the service you get over the phone. In my experience, Guest Services personnel are short (almost rude) and not very friendly or accommodating. The staff on the phone seem much friendlier and helpful.

In all of our cruises, I have never experienced rude guest services staff. It is not a job that I would want, always having to deal with issues, and sometimes unhappy clients.

Customer service is top notch on the ship. I wish Carnival would do like HAL & Royal and have an agent going through the line. It sure weeds people out with simple questions.

My only issue was waiting 8-10 minutes in the P&D line soon before muster only to be turned away. When I first arrived they closed the regular line and didn't say anything to me and my wife so we just stayed put. When the person in front of us left the agent told us they had to close for muster. I was annoyed as I waited 8-10 minutes when they could have said something earlier as they saw me standing there. Otherwise the little I use them has always been excellent. I hear the Horizon will have a different GS setup.

I'm wondering this myself. If you end up with refundable credit at the end of the cruise, I've read nothing anywhere that says that credit balance will be made in the form of gift cards. In fact, on our most recent sailing the final bill stated that any credit balance in excess of $10 would be paid via a check mailed to the address on record.

So, am I understanding that the gift card was due to a credit left from your onboard account and you're praising them for sending it back to you? Via a gift card that you have to use on the ship? I guess I'm just confused. I know it's been years since sailing on Carnival, but everytime we have a credit on our ship account, we go to guest services the final night and get cash in hand.

Again, maybe I'm just not understanding.... the OP was a little cryptic.

We were on the Vista from 01/27 to 02/10. They had a dedicated crew member that was walking through the line, answering general questions or making suggestions (like using the kiosk, and helping people to do so).

If a gift card was applied to the account and a credit was left over at the end, the terms state that it will be returned in the form of a gift card. Cash in hand from guest services is if you paid cash on your account (at least under current rules). Some people cash out their gift cards with the casino trick.

That is merely what they are supposed to do. Normally very good customer service but that is just doing their jobs

I think what the OP was impressed with - as I was when it happened to me - was the promptness of the refunded gift card.

We loaded a $500 gift card to our sign and sail account. After applying charges to OBC from our booking and reduced port fees, we still had over $100 left owed to us at the end of the cruise. I received a knock on the door from FedEx two days after we got back with a new gift card in the amount owed. I knew that I would receive the balance in the form of a new gift card, but expected it in two weeks USPS, so I was very impressed with Carnival:D

Based on a recent refund experience of ours, I would recommend this to everyone that has put credit on their account via gift cards and has a credit balance at the end of the cruise.

What ended up happening? We have another cruise booked and are confident we will spend at least the amount of the gift card, but do not plan on purchasing any more and just have a visa on file for anything extra expenses.

I'm disputing the method Carnival used to refund our credit balance and it could have been avoided if we had used the "casino method" to cash out our account.
