You can check it out here if you are interested. If you aren't interested, you can still see my baby in his cap and gown there. Ahh - I'm getting sentimental. It is going to be a rough week. 6 days until we leave for our cross country drive - eeek.
Ann,

You must be so proud of your kids. You and your husband did good.

Now that you will be empty nesters, will you do more cruising?

I just booked a 7 nighter out of San Juan on Carnival sailing on 3/10/13. We are taking my son, his girlfriend, my step son and his wife. My husbands brother and SIL and my sister and her bf are joining us. Now I am suppose to cancel my March 2012 cruise but I can't. I am hoping the price will go down again and make it more attractive to my husband. I figure I have until december to talk him into doing both cruises.....

Unfortunately, more cruising will have to wait until at least one of them is out of college so that we have the money to go along with the time.

Good luck on talking your hubby into doing both cruises. Give me tips if you succeed. I'm curious as well to see what you think of Carnival. I think I will have to give it a try one of these days. They sometimes have extremely good rates.

Ann, I know one of your concerns were smoking. I guess they have changed their smoking policy and now it sounds similar to RCCL's.

Thanks for the info. I did some research after reading this. Their cabins are going completely smoke-free after December, but to be honest, I've been lucky and this hasn't been a problem for me yet on any cruise. It looks like they are cutting way back on the inside public smoking, but the dance club is still a smoking venue, as well as the jazz club on several ships. That would limit where we would go in the evenings, but it looks like they have so much to do, this probably won't be an issue. I think it is silly that you have to pay extra for a spa cabin to get a non-smoking balcony, but since we don't usually sail in a balcony, it doesn't matter to us.

Princess looks really enticing if we do AK or Canada. Even their balconies have gone non-smoking. One of the reasons (besides being cheap) I've never booked a balcony is that I didn't want to spend the extra money and then not be able to use it due to smoking neighbors. Since they are allowed to smoke on their balconies, I would never feel comfortable asking them to not smoke, so I would simply stay inside all the time.

Ann,

Celebrity has no smoking cabins and no smoking balconies as well. From what I understand, smoking is only allowed in a couple of outside designated areas. No smoking in the casino as well.

We had an aft balcony on Celebrity in Sept of 2010 - our neighbors were smokers but I would walk out on our balcony and say "oh our neighbors must be smoking again" and that was the end of it. They were only out there when we weren't......never really bothered me. I don't know if the balconies were suppose to be non smoking then or not.

I don't know about then, but they are now.............no smoking hardly anywhere. I think just port side by the pool and port side by one of bars on the back of the ship but it's an outside bar.

I know there's no smoking allowed on the balcony or in the casino either. At least on the Silly Wet, it's not allowed.........LOL

I'm kind of one of those middle of the road people. I'm worried that Carnival might be a bit too much of a party line for us and I'm also worried that Celebrity might be too formal for us. We have really been spoiled by the casual and freestyle dining any time on NCL.

I thought Celebrity was more formal than RCCL - we wound up eating in the buffet everynight because we didn't bring our dress up clothes.....

hahaha...........I believe DERF made that name up! LOL It's much easier than spelling out the full name.

I'll definitely let you know what the ship is like when we get back. I'm really nervous about the cabin and storage. From what I see, there's not half as much storage space as in RCCL cabins. Looks like there's no shelves in the closet either and looks like only 3 drawers.......no big middle drawer in the vanity either (I used to throw all the papers, receipts, pens, information in that drawer) The vanity looks much smaller. There is an over the bed storage area, but God help you if your short, looks like you'd have to stand on the bed to get to that one.......LOL I just picked up some of those flat storage boxes that pop up into a box. I'm hoping the 11x11 ones will fit in the over the bed bins so I can at least maybe keep my bathing suits, wraps, coverups in them so I can just pull the box down and get what I want instead of having everything fall out. I also bought a few 6x11 ones to keep things organized on the dresser and a friend of mine told me to get one for the bedside table too because there is no drawer or anything in that one either........just a little flat table that everything falls off of so she takes one to keep a flashlight in and her glasses, a book if she's reading, etc.

Ann, I hope Celebrity isn't to formal for us............I will bring a couple dressy things for the formal nights..........but I'm not getting all dressed up every night. I'm hoping I can still wear capri's to dinner in the dinning room or else we'll be eating in the buffet like Kathy did! LOL I will bring a couple pairs of black pants with a couple different tops for dinner but I don't want to wear long slacks every night.

Patty - capri's were okay in the dining room on Summit. Formal nights you had to be formal to go into the dining room - jacket and tie for men - no ifs, ands or buts. Everyone stays dressed up after dinner also - not us - we would go back and my husband would put on his shorts. We got the evil eyes...... Also no flip flops. I am sure if you have dressy sandles that is okay but I didn't...
We also had anytime dining which we didn't like. They waited until the table was full before even passing out menus; then we sat with our plates in front of us when we were finished eating. That is one of my pet peeves.....
Anyway - this was just our opinion. I would give them another try again now knowing what they are about.

I guess Carnival is really loose on their elegant night dress code:

Formal Nights: Men – A suit or tuxedo is not required but it is important to wear dress pants and dress shirt. Tie and jacket are optional. No sneakers or jeans. (military dress uniform is acceptable)

My husband got all excited until I bursted his bubble and told him the kids want to do formal.......

Well, it sounds like Celebrity won't be in our near future. Getting the evil eye for changing after dinner would not work well for us. Carnival's formal night sounds more like my speed.

Patty, I love the "silly wet" name too. Let us know how it goes.

The only reason I do not change after the formal dinner, is cuz I am too lazy - besides, we eat late so may as well stay dressed! ha!ha!

patty- not to worry - you always look good no matter what you wear cuz you make clothes look very nice on you - as long as you are not wearing tshirts/jeans, etc... which you don't.. so you will be just fine -

do women still wear nylons? i don't but sometimes when i wear black, short or tea length dresses, i feel better with off black nylons - my legs are ugly - i know nylons are no longer the norm these days - just from the old school I guess... carol

Patty, I'm laughing thinking about standing on the bed if you're short to reach the overhead area - that would be me because I'm only 5'0" (lol). Sounds like the new ships have less storage space. The Millenium Class ships have lots of drawer space and I know those ships are being refurbished so I don't know if they changed the layout. Celebrity is more formal than RCI, but I did wear Capris to the dining room and didn't have a problem.

patty- not to worry - you always look good no matter what you wear cuz you make clothes look very nice on you - as long as you are not wearing tshirts/jeans, etc... which you don't.. so you will be just fine -

do women still wear nylons? i don't but sometimes when i wear black, short or tea length dresses, i feel better with off black nylons - my legs are ugly - i know nylons are no longer the norm these days - just from the old school I guess... carol
Carol,
If I'm wearing a very long gown type dress I don't wear nylons, but for a shorter to or below the knee dress I still wear nylons because I just think it looks better.

Theresa, yep, you would probably have to stand on the bed. You have to see how many of these pop up storage boxes I bought to take along with me.......LOL Tony was looking at me like I was nuts! I swear if I could take a cardboard dresser on the ship I would! LOL I like to keep my cabin organized and not so sure it's going to happen this time so I bought the boxes thinking they might help........LOL
