We will bet taking a segment of the World Cruise in January 2019, Southampton to Dubai.

We want to stay on in Dubai for 2 nights after we disembark. Has anyone ever signed up for this extender? What is included? Was it worthwhile doing? Thanks for your input.

Sorry you have not received a reply to your question. We are looking at this voyage ourselves and would also want to stay a few extra days in Dubai. Our other concerns are; is there enough time in Israel to see both Jerusalem and Bethlehem, does a 19 night cruise with only 3 stops make sense. We will continue to monitor this thread.

Hi Jack---
No one ever replied to my post. We are still planning on the Southampton-Dubai segment of the World Cruise. We also signed up for the extender in Dubai. Has anyone out there received any information on the particulars of the extender?

A number of years ago, we sailed to Israel and took a port excursion to Jerusalem & Bethlehem. There will be enough time to see both since the excursion is a very long day. Out intention is to do the tour to Jerusalem on one of our days docked in Haifa and to take a port excursion to Masada & take a swim in the Dead Sea on the second day. We'll be exhausted at the end of the 2 days, but we have plenty of sea days after that to recover.

Why not just choose your own hotel and book it yourself? We booked a Cunard package in Singapore a few years back. There was no breakfast provided, the room was a standard one, though the hotel itself was good, and it was VERY expensive. Since then we always book our own hotel and more often than not our own flights too.

For those who may be interested, the extender in Dubai includes the hotel, breakfast, transfers from the ship and from the hotel to the airport (this information comes from Cunard to our travel agent). We were also advised that the Cunard Care insurance that we bought for the cruise will continue through the extender period.

We are staying on in Dubai next year, and we have chosen the Shangri La, a brand we like.

Cunard will probably use more than one hotel, they certainly did in Singapore and Hong Kong.

We spent 5 days in Dubai last year. It is such an easy destination to DYI. Choose your own hotel based on costs and location. Dubai is one very long strip, so just stay anywhere. Taxis are very affordable, clean and honest. Hire cars are also easily available from the hotel. Get a club room, it's worth it.

So much to do, including a trip to Abu Dhabi to see the mosque which I would say is a must do, just over 1 hour by car depending where your hotel is located, and of course the Emirates Palace Hotel. You can also do an evening safari night or dune buggy. We elected to go to Oman for a night in the desert, just a short flight away. Amazing experience.

Not to mention the gold shopping!!!

The best area to stay if you are arriving on a cruise ship and flying out is on The Creek. Traffic in Dubai is horrendous and transfers to hotels on the beach Can take an hour from the port and airport if the traffic is heavy. Taxis are cheap in Dubai and the transfer time to the creek would be short so win win. You have the souks in the Creek area and also The Sheik Mohammed Centre for cultural understanding nearby as well as the oldest part of Dubai and the museum. You don’t need to book through the ship just book direct.

There is no way I would stay at The Palm. It is way out in the middle of nowhere! It will take an extra 20 minutes extra just to get out of The Palm area. This hotel will be OK if you are looking for down time with a beach and don't want to travel all over the place.

The Park Regis is closer to the Dubai Creek area, and the Western is in the middle of the 'long strip'. Neither of these two hotels are near a beach.

The thing to bear in mind is the time of the year you are visiting. We went their in early October and it was Hot!! and Sticky!!

The interesting thing we discovered, the layout of Dubai along a very long strip, like really long, means that you would have to travel up and down to get to most places. Also, a walk on the beach was great, but if you are happy with a pool, just about any hotel would do.

Which ever 5* hotel you choose, it will be first class. The service levels are extremely high. So choose depending on what you want to do over the two days.
