Non-Refundable OBC at Casino

I've seen very conflicting reports about this. I know what the terms and conditions say (non-refundable OBC cannot be used at the casino) but some users report being able to pull money from casino for a 3% fee and then having their OBC cover it at the end of the trip. Based on CC, I know the casino people will tell you you cannot use OBC for casino. But how about charging it to you on board account and then having your OBC 'indirectly' cover it?

In short, has anyone *recently* been able to successfully pull money from casino onto their account and then have their non-refundable OBC cover it?

Thank you for the response! Just to confirm, did you have anything else charged to or funding your on board account (some on credit card)? I just want to make sure your non-refundable credit was definitely covering the casino itself and not other purchases?

I used it for a few things but did not exceed my non refundable obc. I actually had less than 3.00 left and I was not charged anything to my credit card I had attached to my account.

I would double check this. I have had both refundable obc and non-refundable obc. I have never been able to use the non-refundable credit towards my casino charges. I have only been able to use the refundable towards casino charges.

Let me be specific in what I am saying. I charged $900 to my cabin account from the casino. I had a total of $400 non-refundable obc. I had around $200 in misc charges from the restaurants and gift shop. On my final bill, it took off the $200 of misc charges and I actually lost out on the remaining $200 from the non-refundable obc. They charged my credit card attached to my account the $900.

I had the same experience on Epic last year. I also lost out on non-refundable OBC because I thought it would cover some casino charges. I lost out on about $100 in OBC because I had pre-payed everything and don’t spend much on ships these days (other than the casino, of course :D)

Thank you both of you. It sounds like you didn't just ask and get blocked but you did exactly what I'm asking and it did not pan out. Well if that's not proof it doesn't work what is??

@yummysbakery - was your OBC definitely non-refundable? Perhaps it was provided by a TA and not NCL directly?

This month on the BA......I prepaid all tips and excursions.....

I had $100 non -refundable OBC.....

I charged $100 to my cabin in the casino....

Bottom Line:

My only expense was the 3 per cent fee....

Same question as above, are you 1000% sure your OBC was nonrefundable? Did you get it applied from a TA or directly from NCL?

I wonder whether NCL does some math that because you paid over $100 for excursions (I'm assuming) they'll allow you to apply the credit? That would be a stretch though so I doubt it.

Just odd that some people are fine while others end up losing their OBC.

I am not 100% sure about the NON-refundable credit that is awarded with the Free at Sea promos - so I won't swear to that one (I want to say I "think" it has covered my casino withdrawals - but because I am not absolutely, positively sure I won't say.)

However, for NON-refundable credit awarded BY THE CASINO based on tier level (e.g. I am Ruby so I get $400 OBC per sailing) - that I can ABSOLUTELY state from personal experience that it will not cover casino cash withdrawals. (I usually just use that OBC to buy Cruise Next certificates - it definitely covers those.)

No it was all non refundable from Ncl. I did not ask for cash at the casino I loaded it on to the slot machines and was charged 3% which also came from my non refundable obc. I had 500.00 of non refundable obc on each cruise. Nothing from my ta. On each cruise I transferred 450 from my on board account and was charged $13.50 in fees. The remaining amount I used for specialty coffees and had a few dollars left on my account. As I stated previously my credit card was not charged at all.

Well, I am at a loss for why it works for some people and not for others.

I could definitely understand different people being told conflicting things from staff members, but to have the system apply it for some and not for others is hard to understand.

Unfortunately, probably too risky to attempt because I probably won't know whether my credit works to cover the casino expenses until the cruise is over (and the OBC at that point potentially wasted).

I would think if you are traveling with someone i.e spouse you could have separate accounts set up with all the non refundable on one account and just use that for the first day in the casino without tying it to a credit card. If the machine allows you to transfer the funds you are good. If not, you then have the rest of the cruise to use it on something else.

I too am at a loss as to why it works for some and not for others. Good luck!
