Reptiles???

I have been reading all the threads and some mention the slithering kind of reptiles - Herod even makes a stop to see a Boa (OMG, the thought just freaks me out!)

I am beyond afraid of these things - they are my worst nightmare, I can't even say the actual name of them - :o

I did read there is a special species of these things found only on St. Lucia.

Do I need to be concerned? Has anyone ever actually seen one?

Do not be concerned. I also don't like those reptiles. I did see a man standing alongside of the road with the boa, but he was there just for tourists to have a picture taken with his "friend." (Our tour just zoomed on by.)

There are some of the other reptiles farther inland. Our guide, Frank, said that they were not near where we were going.

I hope this helps.

The only reptile that will harm you on St. Lucia is the Fer-de-lance.

A venomous pit-viper common to Martinique and Trinidad, possibly originally from these islands.

You could probably walk the jungles of St. Lucia for 10 days and never see one.

............I would be more worried about the roads than the snakes...

We have to visit St. Lucia perhaps 4 days each winter and we have never seen any of these snakes. Geckos & whiptail lizards, yes...vipers, no.

Best!

We only saw one - the guy on the side of the road. Cosol, our tour guide, warned us about it before he got in view and let us choose whether to stop. 2 of us were EXTREMELY adamant about not stopping so he sped past for us.

I feel much better now!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help

Believe me, I know how you feel. The guy that you don't want to see is on the side of the road between Castries and Soufriere. If you go that way, tell whomever's driving to warn you so you can look away.
