September or October Rhine Choice?

We are booked for an Avalon 8 day Rhine cruise, Amsterdam to Basel for Sept 30 to Oct 7.

I wonder if we should (we still can) change our dates to earlier in Sept.

We prefer warm, sunny but not hot weather of July and August.

I trolled through the posts but could not find an exact response to this question.

As regard weather there is not that much in it. You could hit a hot spell at the beginning of October and have 28 degrees Celsius during the day. You could hit a rainy four days during a weather Low that has come from the British Isles and have 15 degrees Celsius middle of September. But if you want more sunlight and warmer evenings/nights then earlier in September is better. Autumn leaves you will see from around 4 October, but you will miss the best part of it in Europe anyway, presuming you return on 7/8 October to Canada.

The risk of low water is a little higher in October but that is so tentative I would not make it a consideration for changing the date if I sailed myself.

In short: it could turn out nicer if you could go a fortnight earlier but there is no guarantee.
