Ulu knives outside Anchorage

I will not have time to get knives in Anchorage- my tour arrives at my hotel at 8PM and I fly back to Florida the next day. Are there other places to buy them? (Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and tour into Denali.

You can get them at any of the locations mentioned. Also, if you are sailing on HAL, they sell them in their gift shop onboard the ship. Just be sure to check that they are made in AK.

If you buy them at Tongass, be sure to pick up their coupon booklet at the door or in other tourist free books. I saved $5 on mine.

Every city will sell ulus. They are the traditional Alaska native knives - I bought one on our cruise and use it all the time. You can have them shipped directly home (you can't put them in carry on bags).

Tongass Trading Company is at the Ketchikan pier. Everything for the tourist is on the lower level. The second floor is where the locals shop. Ulus, without "Alaska" are half the price of those downstairs. The $19.95 reversible Alaska jackets are a real bargain.
