Hi there...this will be our 1st Windstar cruise, we are cruising on the Windsurf this May and have only done a Princess Cruise and Uniworld River cruise so pretty new to cruising. Any excursion suggestions from any of you that have done this itinerary in the past. So far we are looking at the Sorrento boat trip to Positano. Do the excursions sell out? Or can you wait until you are onboard to book them?

Thank you.

We were on this cruise last year. It is a great cruise. We only booked two excursions with Windstar. In Rovinj, we did the experience Istria tour. It was a lovely drive to the town of Motovon, and included a truffle experience. We enjoyed it very much. We also did the boat trip to Positano. That is a good choice, because some that took the ferry over had a problem getting back because the return ferry did not arrive when it was supposed to. They had to talk their way on the boat we were returning on.

We had booked a private river rafting tour in Split, but we had miscommunication about the time of departure so we missed it. We just walked around the town.

In Dubrovnik, we walked the wall. The town was very crowded, but it was enjoyable.

We booked a private excursion in Sicily also to Mount Etna and a winery for a tasting and a typical Sicilian lunch. We were not able to go to Taormina because of a G7 conference.

Enjoy your trip.

Hello JW,

Are you on the May 25th sailing? We are too! It’ll be our first WS cruise as well. We’ve booked a couple of private tours, none with the WS company. We tend to “wing it” in many of the cities.

Look forward to meeting you! We have a roll call set up as well with a few others already on the board.

Hi JW,

Are you doing any pre- or post- trip tours? What about tours during the cruise? I'm always looking for ideas!

We're going to take the train up to Pompeii and spend some time up there. We also booked a private tour for Mt. Etna.

Sorry for the late response....We've booked a few tours with WS but still looking at some others...one that we did book was the Positano tour but we would like to get to Pompeii and Ravello also so may look at cancelling and finding something that might include all 3. 3 weeks until we sail, hard to believe!

Great trip loved every second.in Sicily make sure you see the ruins in Taromina, the views from it are beautiful. Above Taromina there is a town spectacular views Castlemolta and a very funny bar. Bar Tousisto you have to have good eyes to see the funniest but it is all over the bar. Lovey town.

We did the WS boat to Positano very pretty going by water instead of the life challenging roads. We had a short time in Amalfi so the boat ride was great. Not sure you would have enough time for Pompeii if you have the same schedule we did. Chef’s tour in Kotor fabulous if you like food culture. We had dinner at Candles the night we went by Stromboli glorious, it was smoking and you get so close. We are passionate for Venice been there a lot, the sail out glorious. Have a great trip. Happy Sailing.
