Rental car from port of Miami?

Hi! When we return to port of Miami after our first cruise we need to rent a car for a road trip to Key West and the West Coast. We want to leave the car at Tampa airport a few days later. How do you usually organise this? Is there a rental company on site at the port of Miami or do we need to take a taxi somewhere? Which car rental company is best and nearest to the port? Please advise us the best way to do this as we have never been in Miami before. Thank you!

Alamo, National, Enterprise, Dollar, and Thifty provide free shuttle service from the Port Of Miami to the Miami Rental Car Center which is located directly across from Miami International Airport. The short fifteen to twenty minute ride is great and normally gets you a rental vehicle much faster. Hertz, Budget, and Avis have downtown Miami locations that are relatively close to the Port Of Miami. The downtown locations are usually swamped with customers on turnaround days and I have personally noticed that it’s a lot easier to rent a vehicle from the Miami Rental Car Center.
