Room key

I believe it is for energy conservation. When you take your Key To The World Out of the slot, lights, TV, and the like will go out/turn off shortly after you do this, and theoretically leave the stateroom. We ask for a blank card to put into the slot as we don’t need this feature to turn off these things, and we keep our KTW card in a plastic case attached to a lanyard like so many other folks. It is awkward to move it from lanyard case to slot and back as you enter and exit the stateroom. DCL does not have these slots on the Magic or Wonder.

As above, it is for energy conservation, to theoretically prevent you from leaving lights and things turned on when you are not in the cabin. Any card of the right size will work--library card, credit card, KTTW from a previous cruise, etc. Or as noted, GS will give you a blank card if you wish.

I also leave my KTTW in a lanyard, so taking it out is inconvenient.
