Hong Kong - Kai Tak to Star Pier

Since no one answered you I will try and help. We were on a Celebrity cruise and if you booked the HOHO bus excursion through the ship, the BigBus company ran the shuttle to Star Ferry so you can connect to one of the routes.

I think Princess also has an excursion for the HOHO Bus and the price is about the same as buying a ticket directly with the bus company. You can double check with Princess to make sure they have the shuttle to Star Ferry if you buy the HOHO excursion through them.

In the event that there is no direct connection from Kai Tak to the HOHO bus starting point, the next best bet is to get a cab. There should be plenty at Kai Tak terminal and they are inexpensive. The only thing is they only take $HK and no credit cards. We have used cabs lots when we have been in a hurry and found them great.

By the way, the HOHO bus route that runs on Hong Kong Island is a really scenic route and well worth the trip if you have the time.

Joining the queue for taxi line is a good idea, although the wait can be long if there are lots of DIY tour going ashore - there is also free shuttle services to/from nearby mall, next to the MTR (subway) stations (no need for getting local HKD currencies) ... although, you will probably need or want to have some at some point, unless you plan to get the Octopus card & use it at most places, accepted for purchases all over the city.

There is a PMB route, Public Mini Bus - which accepts both HKD and/or Octopus card, for a quick ride to the nearby MTR's - where you can transfer to the subway train ride to TST for a short walk to the Star Ferry, down Nathan Rd & Salisbury Rd. Or, ride that across to HK Island - Central via Admiralty station (that's for the Peak Tram)

Instead of the HoHo Bus, you can ride the 120+ years old, one of the longest running double-decker electric tram, east to west & sightsee ... although, those of you taller need to "mind your head" (or, watch your head) if going up the stairs for the upper) going toward Wan Chai & Causeway Bay - HK's retail malls, upscale boutiques & high end shops and multi-story indoor malls and gourmet dining to casual eating.

There is usually a free shuttle from Kai Tak to the Diamond Hill MTR subway station. From there you can take a local train with a connecting local train to the Tsim Sha Tsui MYR subway station and walk over to the Star Ferry. At the port, you may be able to buy a one day tourist pass card for the subway. FYI... just outside the Diamond Hill MTR is the most beautiful Asian Tang Dynasty Garden and a beautiful Buddhist Nunnery. The garden is the Nan Liam Garden and the Buddhist nunnery is the Chi Lin nunnery. Both were free and absolutely breathtaking.

Use the shuttle and subway, they are both easy and the MTR is a great experience too.

We have used both taxi's and the free shuttles to MTR stations. Please note that there can be substantial waits for both taxis and shuttle buses. We waited sitting on a shuttle bus at Kai Tak for about 25 minutes one morning and also waited about 20 minutes for the shuttle to arrive at the MTR station for our return trip.

Also suggest that you check to see what ships are in port at Kai Tak. If it's just one ship with under 3000 passengers, not too much of a problem. But add an additional 5000 passenger ship on their turn around day with 5000 both arriving & departing and the waits can be long. We were on a B2B with 3 days in HK and chose to do a ship's excursion on the day there were 8000 in port and saved our DIY touring for the two days with less than 3000.
