Rough seas from Panama to SFO in December/January?

I was wondering whether one can expect rough seas between Panama and San Francisco in late December / beginning January? Is this supposed to be the quietest months of the year? I am considering cruising with the Whisper which is a rather small ship. And I know that I can be subject to seasickness. Thanks.

A decade ago, we did Panama Canal on the Shadow (the Whisper's twin) just before

Christmas, the sea was quite calm. Usually rough seas are over by end of October.

We’ve crossed the Atlantic in the Whisper without issues, and the meaning of ‘Pacific’ is ‘peaceful’, at least when compared to the Atlantic. If you’re susceptible to seasickness I’d recommend mid ship on deck 4,5 or 6. Weather should be fine that time of year.

We did the Panama to Los Angeles on the Whisper in late December and it was mostly smooth all the way. But I am sure you know what others experienced may not be what you will have.

The answer is the odds are good for relatively calm seas but my own experience this time of year or for that matter anytime of year that you just never know. One of the roughest seas we have experienced is one time arriving to Miami and we have sailed much of the world not once but multiple times.

My advice is to prepare for rough seas and by that I mean be careful selecting location of your suite and bring something to help prevent sea sickness.

Also each person has a different view of when the seas are bothersome.

This will our 5th Panama Canal cruise over the Christmas holidays and the seas have always been gentle.
