Snorkeling at Tropicante

We will be at Tropicante next week. We already have our reservation. Is there any decent shore snorkeling in the area? I know there is a boat that will take you out if you want. We will be with our kids that have never been snorkeling and I do not want to lug our equipment down if there is nothing to see.

If we did take the boat out, how is the snorkeling? We have snorkeled all over the Caribbean and hate to be disappointed. We will be in Cozumel the next day so looking forward to doing that again. I just hate to waste money and lug all the of the equipment if the experience will not be nearly as good as Cozumel.

Thanks!!

Snorkeling along the malecon is not good. Not iron shore. shallow sandy bottom. Tropicante is in the middle of the malecon. Some people say snorkeling is okay up around Blue Kay, near the lighthouse. But offshore snorkeling is indeed excellent. Lots of divers go out of Mahahual. So ask Steve or Jorge(?) to see if they can arrange a boat for you.
