Beaches and venues in Nassau

We have two kids and wanted to get an idea of what to expect. We were planning on swimming with the kids a bit at the beach before getting some conch for lunch.

  1. For the most part, are the beaches public? Can we find a place and just swim or are there designated public beaches?
  2. Where's the best place to hunker down with the kids and enjoy the beach near the Fish Fry and/or downtown? Preferably a beach with amenities to rinse off and change. We were hoping to swim a bit then get something to eat.
  3. I've read that drinking on the beach is allowed. Is this true?
  4. Lastly, what are some recommendations of the best place to get a conch salad at the fish fry (or somewhere else), that also has a kid menu? Doesn't have to be at the Fish Fry, but i've heard this is the best place to get a local conch salad.

Your responses are appreciated.

the fish fry in Arawak Cay is your best bet- You need to cab there.

LOT of hawkers-- just be careful

or look at the Tiki Bikini hut too . comes highly recommended.

Thanks for the response! Can you clarify what “Hawkers” are?

My recommendation would be to take a cab to Nirvana Beach Bar at Love Beach. It'll be much nicer, quieter, drinks, food, semi-private beach, etc. Get all the conch you want at Nirvana as well.

Nirvana will be similar, if not better than what you would find at the fish fry. The fish fry is cool but not that special.

Back in January, the Dept. of State issued a travel advisory to anyone visiting the fish fry on Arawak Cay at night. As long as your there during daylight hours you should be okay. It's best to always check the D of S's websites for updated travel warnings.
