Princess@sea and Liquor question

Hi.

We are embarking on our 1st Princess cruise Friday!! Yay!

Just received the "Final Info..." email.

Couple of questions please...

1. Does the Princess@sea app/page work if you do not sign up for onboard internet?? Is it useful?

2. The email states liquor brought onboard will be discarded but am I correct to assume that souvenir bottles of liquor purchased in ports will be held for you until the last night like other lines?

Thanks in advance.

Cathy

Princess @ sea app isn’t about anymore, you login at crown.princess.com as a example or whatever ship you are on. In theory the liquor will be discarded but who knows.

if you get caught sneaking liquor onboard, it will be confiscated - what happens after that - well, who really knows..;p

if you buy liquor in ports, in theory, you will go to the desk after security, give it to them, and then you will receive it back sometime the last day of the cruise

The Princess at Sea stuff is an intranet situation--you do not need to purchase an internet plan to use it. But it isn't an app. Basically you are signing into the ship's free web site. I'm sure one of the IT gurus will have a more complex explanation, but that's basically the way it works.

Others had good info on how it works, I just wanted to add that we found it useful on our cruise in April. Somewhat for messaging each other but you do have to check for messages, it doesn't notify you. I particularly liked it for checking events on board and setting up my schedule.

Visit the internet center, wait in line with all the others, and the attendant will show you how to set up your device for free on board intranet use. It is useful as it has the events of the day. But don't totally relay on it. Some information shown in the Princess Patter is not included.

Alcohol purchased at ports of call is turned in when you board. There is a check in table. It is delivered to your cabin on the last day.

Just sailed 14 day Circle Caribbean in March. Many people purchased rum at either Mount Gay or Foursquare. (OMG I love that Foursquare Rum!). When they returned to the ship the security people kept saying, "Anybody who purchased alcohol onshore please check it at the alcohol table". Most folks - especially those with big Mount Gay bags - took their purchases to the table where they were logged and then taken for storage. The liquor is returned the last night before embarkation day. They do this all the time and I've never heard of anybody who had a problem getting their purchases returned.

Any alcohol purchased at distant ports is supposed to be checked in with Princess when returning to the ship.

Many people just bypass the check-in table & bring it to their rooms to enjoy. If it's in a liquor store bag it's sometimes hard to hide so just put it in the bottom of a beach bag with a few towels on top & no one will know the difference. ;)

Liquor purchased in ports are taken from you when you go through security when you return to the ship and returned to you at the end of the voyage. I don't know if the location where it is returned to you varies by ship but the ships that sail out of Seattle usually return things when you have cleared the gangway and reached the cruise terminal.

Like the poster said, you are 'suppose to stop' at the 'alcohol check in table' when you return to the ship in a port, but if you forget you forget. Short term memory loss! I have never ever seen it taken from you at security since the alcohol tables are usually by the elevators and they can't really see security.

No need to go to the internet center, if you are at all into tech stuff. Just a little bit of knowledge will do.

The connection address is posted in front of the internet center (usually) and there are directions on how to do it in the 1st day Patter (again, usually).

Saves standing in the long line.:D

We've used the Princess at Sea last three cruises and thought it was helpful. As mentioned above, you can keep in touch with family/friends cruising with you (though you have to check for messages, no notices given); it's also a good way to look at events for the day and keep up with your shipboard account. Enjoy your cruise!

About the only way they could see you liquor purchases is if you're carrying a box of bottles with advertisement on the side.

The people at the scanners rarely escort people to the check in desk. I've never even had them say anything to me at all.

  • 4 weeks later...

Okay, I am reviving this thread with some questions!

Are they not selling the small bottles of liquor, to your cabin, any longer?

I do see that they are still listed as pre-order on our upcoming cruise on the Regal.

We actually wanted some rum for a day ashore at Mexico. (no local bar liquor there, for me)

Maybe the Cruz Coconut Rum? We have had that here at home.

Now I am hearing Thrak mentioning that Foursquare.

Wonder if we could buy that in port before we get to Mexico, and walk on with a small bottle in the bottom of our beach/day bag???

Hhhhmmmm????

Thrak, if you see this, do tell me more about that rum!

That's how we bring our rum from home all the time...carried on with us in our bags at embarkation.

At any distant ports it works equally as well in your beach bag (or a pint size bottle in your pocket) ;);)

They do sell bottles for the cabin but their price for a 50ml bottle is about the same as a pint price off the ship.

Also no rum unless you buy it by from one of the bars.

Wishing, which port in Mexico? I’ve found it easy to buy a bottle of rum in port, liquor stores are everywhere. I’ll get a couple bottles of Havana Club 7, we drink one and bring the other back to the ship. Most times they don’t say anything but if they do no biggie, we check it. And Thrak is right about Foursquare, I have several bottles and they are all excellent. You can’t go wrong with a rum from Richard Seale. It's Barbados rum. I can't find it here at home. Mount Gay rum, yes. Foursquare rum no. :loudcry: It's nothing at all like the Bacardi and such we see in the stores here. We got it in Barbados. I don't even need their fancier rums. Their regular old everyday rum is drinkable straight up.

The threat to discard is only for initial embarkation when you start the cruise.

For those that sneak their liquor on at ports, your bags go through the x-ray machine right? Are you saying the people monitoring the scanners see that you have alcohol, but trust that you'll turn it in at the desk? When we were boarding in FLL last year the scanner person saw our 2 bottles of wine and made sure we made it to the desk to log them in. I'd love to buy some local liquor in port to enjoy in our cabin, but worried I'd be caught!

When you buy bottles of liquor at any port, of course they see them in the scanner but it always so busy that they just don't have to time to escort each person to the check in desk.

They trust that you'l proceed to the check in table, located by the elevators & voluntarily give it up.

Most people just bypass them and walk up the stairs.

At embarkation, we check in so early that they usually don't have the table set up yet.

Did they ask for your documents to see what cabin you were in or just ask you for a cabin number?

It has been a while since our last Princess Cruise. Alaska....

In the Caribbean am wondering if the preponderance of passengers wanting to board with local Rums, Tequila, etc... pretty much mandates that they can't possibly keep up with being strict. ????

PS: they do not have to see any documents on anything.

The system keeps track of every passenger embracing and disembarking electronically.

floridalover5623, I can't remember if they asked for documentation or just our cabin number. I was just happy to be allowed to bring 2 bottles of our own for free!

The only reason I asked is because every time we boarded in Ft. Lauderdale there has never been a table set up to register your wine and collect the $15 fee for add'l bottles.

I assume they would want to know what cabin your in for the 2 non-fee bottles.
