Need info about Nickelodeon Family Cruises for 2009

Recommended Posts

Did anyone go on this year's Aug. 10-17 rccl's nickelodeon cruise? How was it? Were there loads of kids and did they have a good time. My nephew will be 9 by next summer, and I would like to know if the nick cruise is too babyish for a 9 year old? Was it worth the cost? From what I read a family of 4 would pay $3,999 per room - was it worth the money for a 7 day cruise from Miami, Florida?

Since I live in New York and would have to fly to get the cruise, I would really like to know if the adults on this ship also had things to do, besides things with the kids. Did they have any adult entertainment, such as a casino, etc.?

Thanks for any info.

There is so much for a kid to do on a "regular" cruise, I just can't see spending the extra money to go on a charter ... unless, of course, you simply love being on a cruise ship that will literally be swamped with kids .....

To answer your question - yes, the adults will have entertainment as well. Just realize that this ship will be loaded with kids.

Hi there! I was on the Nick cruise (see Cruise Critic for my story about it, coming soon) and my six-year-old son had a great time. We both really enjoyed it, actally. Yes, there were loads of kids, for sure. Kids were everywhere, all the time. But I guess that was kind of the point! Still, the ship has plenty for adults to do (casino, spa, late-night entertainment, bars) all of which were open for the cruise, as well as a children's program, if you want to spend a few evenings kid-free.

As for whether a 9-year-old is too old, I saw many pre-teens having a great time - but it does depend on how much he is into Nick shows, characters and actors. Definitely ask him.

I hope this is helpful!

I would love to know if you thought this cruise was great because of Nick or despite Nick. ;)

Our favorite ship class is the Freedom class. So is it worth paying the extra money for the slime? :p :D

We know how great Freedom of the Seas is for kids. The best as far as I'm concerned. But does having Nick onboard make it any more special?

We thought the Nick twist made the cruise that much more fun. My son loved meeting the characters, and was really excited about the early premieres and the chance to meet actors that he'd seen on tv a million times. So for us, the theme was a good thing! :D But if you don't have a house full of Dora or iCarly fans, surely, you might have a hard time justifying the price tag. ;)

Absolutely, the Freedom class has loads to offer families on its own - but we really enjoyed the Nick presence onboard.

Have you done this type of ship before the Nick cruise?

RC had plenty of adult entertainment. The dance clubs were 18 and over after 11 pm, the bars, casino, adult only comedy night, the compass stressed that the love and marriage show be adults only, but people brought their kids anyhow. Ken Rush (CD) saw this and was very good in helping all of the contestants keep the answers PG-13. 70's themed dance party in the promenade. The ladies really seemed to enjoy the village people. 80's themed dance party at Studio B. RC brought on board extra staff for the Ocean Adventure clubs to handle the extra kids and the adult to kid ratio would be met. On air club Karaokee was popular with the adults. Rock band contests. Mens belly flop, mens sexy legs, etc. Plus then you had your shore excursions options

Hey CruisinMama:

I want to say thank you. I used several of your advise tips and read your reviews on the Freedom of the Seas. This was the first cruise for my kids, if not for the commercials more than likely we would have not booked the trip. Nick was well worth it for my daughter (10). As luck would have it Fred (Icarly) was in our group for the Mustard drill so she got to talk with him, then ran into Tom Kenny as we were exiting the family disco, his son was same age enjoyed some conversation. I found it funny that around 11:30 pm on Sunday his mom still do not have her luggage at her stateroom. Even guest of honor must wait for their luggage. During the Nick 6 performance my daughter got to go dance with the dancers. So when we got home just over hearing her tell all her stories to her girlfriends was great. My son (7) had a better time with the shore excursions and RC stuff. He was telling stories about snorkling, swimming with the sting rays, the food on board and the H2O zone. Never done a Disney cruise so I can not compare. During the week there were lots of promos for the Oasis, so now both are wanting to know when will we be doing that cruise. The gifts each night for the kids were a nice touch as well. They got CDS, backpacks, lapel pins, Nick Suckers, and other items.

I ask becasue I am currently booked on the 7/26/09 Mariner of the Seas and haven't heard that I am getting bumped. My husband is the TA, so you would think that he would have heard this. I wonder what they do for us?

Yes, these dates are on the NICK website and when I went to the RCCL website to see if either of these dates were coming up the FOS date did not show at all and the Mariner date did show but then when you went through to reserve it's showing nothing is available.

According to Seatrader, RCI has announced the dates for next years two Nick cruises.

Mariner of the Seas - July 26th.

Freedom of the Seas - August 9th.

Here is the link to the article but it is a copyright so I cannot post the article.

I'll be sure to stay about 100,000 nautical miles AWAY from those ships on those dates. Nick Cruises - what a nightmare!!! Blessings and kudos to all of you saintly parents out there who are willing to go on these cruises with your kids. Not me, no way:eek:
