i was just on Royal Caribbean FB page and someone was complaining that you now have to pay $10 to see the Ice Show on Voyager of the seas. Has anyone else heard this? Not good if it is true.

I hope this isn't the case. RCI is becoming the cruise line of extra charges.

Yeah, I heard that a couple of days ago. Surprising, but I wonder if it is related to being in Asia? Seems they discriminate and like to charge even more than normal up there.

I started a thread on the RCI Board and several people have suggested that the charge might only be implemented for sailings in China.

We cruised on Voyager from Sydney to Singapore in April and I can confirm the ice shows were free of charge. The shows were very popular and many people rated them as the highlight of the entertainment on board. There were 2 separate shows on our cruise and passengers were invited on a roster system based on their cabin number and deck.

I've reached out to Royal's PR team, and I'm told the $10 charge is only on Voyager of the Seas and only when it's sailing in China. Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

Thank you for that information, we leave Singapore for Freemantle in Oct. so assume there won't be a charge for the ice show. I wonder why they charge in China?

It could be related to replacing revenue streams.

I think I read that the ships out of China had much lower bar receipts compared to boats out of some other places (looking at you Kiwis. )

If this is the case, the charge for the ice show could be a different element of the business plan.

But conversely, they have massively higher casino receipts. High profits on both sectors so I don't believe that's part of it.
