Walking to New Orleans (cruise ships)

There are a number of hotels, garages, etc. within walking distance of the cruise ship terminals in New Orleans. Rather disturbing to me was I noticed a number of Pedestrian Prohibited signs when walking around the area Memorial Day weekend. Perhaps I had just never noticed or perhaps just ignored or maybe they really are new.

But here are some walking pictures.

Have now crossed Convention Center Blvd (@Julia) and looking towards the Hilton still. Can you see why this is called the Whale Parking lot?

And down that road is how I normally walk to the Conquest. If your ship is at berth two, you are pretty much there at this point.

But these are troubling to me, if enforced...

There are some other less convenient ways...

And one that is closed... {temporarily ??}

Again, I don't see ANY issues walking to Berth 2 - it is Berth 1 that may be more of a challenge these days.

And you can still walk to Berth 1...

Walking from Holiday Inn Select Convention Center is about the same as from Embassy Suites:

Thanks for posting! Liked being able to see where our balcony on Conquest is - and what there is around the pier! (BTW, Zydeco - I bought prescription goggles on ebay:) )

Zydeco.. I walked the area in your pics today and it seemed to me that the best place to get off for those taking the streetcars to the pier would be the Julia Street stop. You can take the escalator up to the Riverwalk and go out the back door to the walkway. Not that bad of a walk. I was with Zonemasconi from these boards and he weighs around 400 lbs.:D

400 pounds is about how much my luggage weighs, so I know where you're coming from. Instead of the escalator, there is an elevator behind at Riverwalk.

WOW ! Thx so much for all these great pictures and descriptions. We may be cruising from New Orleans next year and I am trying to find out some of the logistics.

There is an elevator but it was out-of-order yesterday.

There is some very good food available at the Food Court. Sort of a "Fast food" atmosphere but good and varied.

QUESTION - Is it possible to see the ship from the Holiday Inn Convention Center Blvd? Just wondering if we should try and get rooms on that side of the hotel.

Maybe from the upper floors you might be able to see some of the upper decks. You have to look over the Convention Center and the Cruise Terminal Bldg. Think most (all?) of the ship won't be directly opposite of the hotel.

I assume you are referring to the Holiday Inn Select Convention Center.

I'd estimate about 3 1/2 blocks. Very practical as far as I'm concerned. I've walked that distance + a cruise ship and a half farther to get to the Conquest before.

I'm on the Nov 6 Sun sailing and is what I plan on doing. I'll have a huge suitcase + garment bag + laptop bag + probably one more (I've downsized!), but the suitcase rolls easily. If you see me post after that you'll know I survived!
