Dream: Balcony smokers

Let me put it this way ,I wouldn't bother spending the extra money for a balcony. When Carnival said no smoking in your cabin or balconies ,the rule must have been broken the day it went into effect.

To us booking a balcony has nothing to do with smoking, nothing. We would not sail without a balcony, so many great perks, love it. Yes, people smoke on the balcony, we smelled "both" cigarettes and pot, who cares.

We have never been bothered by smoking while on our balcony...even when it was allowed! You're right, the smoke blows away pretty fast, so unless you are downwind of a heavy smoker, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

The one time smoking on our balcony was a problem was when both balconies below us and one on either side were smokers, very hard to get away from the smoke then. since they made it a rule that people can't smoke on their balcony, it really hasn't been a problem.

Seems with the "no smoking on balcony" policy if people do smoke, they do so quickly so they don't get busted. No longer are there the all day smokers. We haven't had nearly the stench of cigarette smoke in recent years as we did before the policy.

We check where the public smoking deck(s) are before booking and make certain we're on the opposite side of the ship. That helps too.

We always get a balcony and never had a problem. We did however have a couple sit next to us on the deck overlooking the Lido, on the NON-SMOKING side. They proceeded to light up. I very nicely asked them if they realized the smoking was on the other side. The guy says "No if we're outside we can smoke anywhere:o" I said "Really do you see anywhere to put your cigarettes out on this side"? They looked at each other and got up and moved. Smoking sections are in place for a reason, safety being a big one!

We have booked only balconies for quite a few years now. Only once have we had a smoker nearby that bothered us while we were on our balcony. And it was only a couple times during the week long cruise. Being out doors with a good breeze created by the ships movement made the smell disperse quickly. Nothing that bothered us too much or kept us away from our balcony. I've noticed that in the last couple of years since the new strict no smoking rules and the popularity of vaping, we haven't noticed any balcony smokers around us. Not that there aren't any, I think there's just less of them.

Really... "who cares" What kind of a comment is that? A lot of people care, me included.

Has anyone had problems with this? It seems to me that at least when the ship is moving the smoke would be dispersed, but cigar smoke could be a problem. I am not overly sensitive. Just curious.

I absolutely disagree that smoke dissipates when the ship is moving. We've had smokers in cabins in front of us and the smoke always found it's way onto our balcony, making it unusable for me.

After the new policy went into effect, we did have a family in the cabin in front of ours smoke I called Guest Services. Someone came to talk with them. Didn't smell smoke again for the rest of the cruise.

I've never understood the notion that cigar smoke is more objectionable. To me most cigars smell like incense, as opposed to cigarettes. Regardless, both are harmful to those around them.

What I cannot understand is why smoking is allowed in the Night Clubs, where there is no escape....

It helped keep us out of them and the casino.

Maybe for you.

For us, it's just another policy that Carnival refuses to enforce.

It's an honest comment, I am a live and let live kind of guy. The few seconds of wafting smoke does not make your balcony unusable unless they are smoking 24 hours a day. What does it take 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette? Kids screaming in hall ways are much more annoying than a little smoke

If I smelled pot I'd be knocking on

I'm also a live and let live kind of guy but since I lost part of a lung to lung cancer last year I'm less tolerant of being around smoke than I used to be. 5 minutes probably wouldn't elicit a response from me but if they're out there every time that I am I would be making a call.

And a lot don't, me included, so what's your point?

The point is that you are not allowed to smoke on your balcony. So grow up, be an adult, and follow the rules. There are far more non smokers than smokers and many us don't want to smell or breath smoke. If people want to smoke, I don't give a rat's patoot, just do it in the designated smoking areas.
