Bomb Cyclone Breakaway: Cruise Credit Offer?

I noticed a hearty discussion about that "event" over at Youtube. As I recall OP got bashed pretty badly for booking a cruise out of the North Atlantic and then complaining about the weather. I wasn't there... just repeating. By the way, there was also some discussion about a class action suite, that would be in complete opposition to the cruise waivers we all must sign before getting boarding docs.

Curious - what would you see as fair and equitable?

Very generous especially since the cruise line doesn’t owe you anything.

One of the bigger complaints (and no I do not have a horse in this race) is the 14 night cruise after theirs got a 1 day credit (for leaving one day late), a refund for port fees for skipping Aruba (yes I know, no port, so no port fees) & 25% off their next cruise.

Truth be told I do think they should get something more then that but some of them won’t be happy until they get Andy’s firstborn.

Nope. They are owed 1 day cruise refund and 1 day’s port tax. Everything else is very generous. We have been on cancelled cruises, delayed cruises, changed itineraries, and if the cruise line offers us ANYTHING, we are extremely grateful.

I travel every week. If I got a free airline ticket every time my flight was cancelled or delayed due to weather, I could fly free for a year. For every mode of transportation, we agree to terms and conditions.

After reading so much of the misinformation and the exaggerations on the FB survivors page, I wouldn't give them anything, but that is just me.

I totally agree, what i'm treading on that page is almost comical, somebody even said she was not able to take a shower for days lol. I've seen some of the videos and pictures, yes it very pretty rough, but life in danger? come on people get real. They were walking around taking pictures and videos, I didn't see anyone with Life Jackets on, not even the crew in some of the videos. I would bet that if they thought they were in a life or death situation those Life jackets would have come out.

Also they are saying that there was vomit all over, my question is why didn't these passengers keep those barfbag with them instead of just letting it rip all over the place, so shame on them for doing that.

Some even said their kids were in their cabins sleeping ??? ok so you are scared for you life but your kids are my themselves sleeping in your cabin. People still went to go eat, they crew was still preparing food, so no life threatening situation there.

There was a video from a Tender coming back from GSC people standing, yes standing and taking pictures and some even laughing, yet they are complaining about the Tender rides too. Somebody said " nobody told them to sit down" Hello, you have to be told to sit your A#$% down? how old are you ? Anyway they are all nuts , yes i said it nuts

Marion

P.S They are saying they will never cruise with NCL again, so why should they get anything ? I think what they got is fair, they dont want to use it , thats on them.

Snowflakes looking for a hand out.

This. Total snowflakes. I've seen the videos and read the accounts. Having been on many cruises, I've inevitably encountered stormy seas. The types where the crew goes cabin to cabin to lock down your portholes, windows and doors. Where extra barf bags are put out. Where people head down to the lowest deck and toward the center of the ship for stability. Where your window looks like the glass door at the laundromat's washing machine. Where you hear the pounding on the ship's hull and the creaks/bends/twists go on all through the night.

And in those few instances, no cruise credits. Also, no regrets as I knew I was on a ship and on the big 'ol ocean, and that these things can happen. Those experiences ALWAYS make me appreciate when the seas are calm and you "Don't even know you're on a ship"!

We've heard from passengers on the very next cruise. There are no wet carpets. There is no mold and vomit everywhere. The ship doesn't smell bad.

You're dealing with people who were experiencing rough conditions at the end of a long cruise. Heading back home to cold and snow. It was too much for some of the snowflakes to deal with. I totally get it. It totally doesn't even faze me! If I was on that ship, I'd be looking forward to - possibly even booking onboard - my next cruise, lol.

Love it, 44 minutes ago someone reposted a video (looks like they edited a lot out, of course, it was of people laughing, walking around, etc.) and they posted on the video that passengers were told to put on their lifejackets....unbelievable, as that never happened. Do they really think that lying is going to get them more.

Update. Now, some are saying they weren't asked to put on their lifejackets and that this video needs to be corrected, because they don't want issues with their credibility, even though they keep saying that they were sailed right into the storm.

Scammers looking for a pay day. Also possible there a few people with financial interests in other cruise lines looking to hurt NCL business.

I don't know if they were given verbal warnings to sit down or risk going overboard. There are ample reminders, signage inside the tender boat - instructing all to remain seated until docked. (see below)

Might be the same amusing video that I saw - those tender boat will rock back & forth, sideway in the wind - even in near perfectly calm sea condtions off the island - it's not NYC's Central Park & even the Hudson or East River crossings are sometimes, choppy.

As safety conditions changed for the worst, isn't that appropriate for the Captain to recall everyone to return ASAP to the big ship and leave ...Hmmm, maybe - next time, leave them behind on the island to ride out the storm ;p Of course, snowflakes will also complain that they skipped & missed GSC and had their cruise vacation ruined, blah - blah - blah.

Surprised that nobody complained about the casino during the storm. :halo: :')

I shall wait ;p  :halo: to send them regards for a virtual candlelight vigil - if there's one planned - to remember those lost souls.

We had 15 ft.+ seas on the BA sailing out of NY last October, rocking & rolling - the most crowded place late night was the casino when I stroll by to find the Mrs. Wondered if they shut down the casino, LOL out of an abundance of precaution, for those CAS guests and "confine" them ... as that would be grounds for filing more grievances.

Cruising on the Hudson River is better for them ... imagine some of them doing the Transatlantic on the Star or the Jewel.

We were in a Nor'easter on a large Carnival ship some years ago. Yes, the sea was very rough and people were puking. Balcony barriers were breaking and flinging around on their remaining hinges. We didn't sleep well a couple nights because every time we'd doze, a wave would hit the stern of the ship hard and jolt us awake again. :(

But we CHOSE to cruise at that time of year. Wouldn't even have thought of asking for compensation since the captain/cruiseline, etc. do not control the weather and do their best to handle the weather that comes up. What I remember most about the cruise was the production show they finally could have when the seas calmed. . .it was the best I had ever seen at sea although I can't remember what it was called.

Call me old school but I haven't seen a cruise line ship yet that sails into anything I call rough seas. Plus the video actually shows just how smooth the ride was on that ship. If people were puking it's because they probably would have been puking on calm seas because they didn't take a pill or patch because they were "seasoned" sea travelers or likely drunk because of the unlimited beverage package.

Want to see what rough seas look like, sign the dotted line and get paid to travel the world on a ship much smaller than a cruise ship that's larger than an aircraft carrier!! When you have to dog all hatchways and still have water coming in because the water is coming over the bow AND the bridge and the only way to stay in your bunk is to strap in. THEN you know rough seas.

I was on this cruise. I was not traumatized by it, but I fail to see how those of you making fun of my fellow passengers is adding anything to further the discourse.

It's because of the exaggerated comments that they have made. Like, passengers being told to put on their lifejackets, which is incorrect, there was no such announcement. How about the woman that is now a zombie and hoping her frozen food doesn't run out. How about them all saying the Captain sailed them into the storm, when in fact he sailed behind it. These are just a few examples.

As I've said before, I really feel for these folks that they had to go through this weather, but if they just told there story as it was, instead of exaggerating and trying to blog up NCL FB site, I think folks, as well as NCL, would be more sympathetic toward them.

Yeah, I get it. But I think the point has already been made repeatedly. Not sure why folks on both sides can't let this go at this point. Hyperbole on either side isn't productive.

Stupidity should be contested or people will think it is socially acceptable.

This whole thread is pretty comical, I’m on the BA now heading back to NYC in a storm it’s slowing us down but it’s part of the game In the winter. I’m great full for the 25% cruise credit was not really expected but will book something and make use of it.
