Are there any tour guides in Monte Carlo? Are tour guides needed? Could we just do it on our own?

try this site http://www.visitmonaco.com/us hope it helps. i found out that some things are free like the beach and the japanese gardens, & changing of the guards at the palace right before noon.here's the site for free brochures: http://www.visitmonaco.com/us/Brochures/Brochures
they also have a tourist train that's inexpensive. have fun!

We used the hop on, hop off bus for Monaco and did the complete loop twice, getting on and off.

We saw the changing of the guard at the palace. There are some great little shops both up by the palace and then on the main strip.

IMO, this is one port that you can do on your own.

We used a private guide - Sylvie - highly recommended on these boards and now by Rick Steves. there is so much to see in the French Riviera besides Monaco.

she was fabulous. we have booked her again this year for St. Tropez.

By far our most favourite guide last year and probably one of our faves of all time.

here is a link to her web page & her email in case you are interested.

Can you give more information about the HOHO bus? Where do you pick it up? How much was it? etc. We are considering this as well for our port day in Monaco.

Hello - I copied this text from the VisitMonaco website. The program is called Monaco Grand Tour "get-on/get-off" bus (visitmonaco.com/en/News/Enchante-moi-Monaco/)
It stops right in front of the cruise ship pier and runs in regular intervals.
