Carnival Elation refurbished out of Jax Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all, has anyone sailed Elation out of Jax since it has been refurbished? I have a question. I do not ride elevators. Big phobia. Can I take the stairs everywhere I need to go on this ship, including embarking and disembarking the ship, as well as just getting around the ship in general? I tried to find videos to help me figure this out, but I was only able to find one embarkation you tube where the couple took the elevator up right after getting on the ship. Any help here?

When you embark in JAX, you enter on ground level, one deck below Riviera deck. The gangway you see in the picture is not movable so hasn't been used since Fascination replaced Celebration in JAX.

When you get onboard, you will be on a crew deck, same one usually used for debarking in ports. You can take the stairs from there, although the may be reluctant to allow it. EM

I was on it prior to the refurb and due to sail her in a few months....i dont believe the refurb did any major elevator additions, if I am mistaken, my apologies. I dont normally ride elevators due to the wait and crowds waiting for them. I was able to access the entire ship without taking elevators. Depending on where your cabin is, that could mean a workout, but last cruise i actually lost a few lbs from all the walking i did on the ship :D....I did sail her out of Jax and i walked from parking lot, into terminal, up the gangplank into the ship and took the stairs up to my room. Same only in reverse order for debarking....No elevator used

I can’t think of any ship where you can’t get to any part of the ship by the stairs, that would be a major hazard we’re there a fire. We have been on 40 cruises on 11 different lines and you could access any part of every ship by the stairs.

Hey, we were on Elation last Oct. (after dry dock) The only thing that I noticed was when time to disembark back at Jax, they had everyone meet on the 8th, 9th, or 10th deck to take the elevators down. This included the self assist people. It was a new process and it did not go well, so maybe they have since changed it. The ship is Beautiful, by the way. It took the longest to get ashore than on any of our previous 10 cruises out of Jax. Be Blessed! Mikey:D

We were just on her 11/27-12/2. I could get every where with stairs. Mikey is correct on disembark. Our room was on deck 6. We had to carry our luggage up 2 decks to wait in the lounge (deck 8) as the last group to get off. They told us if we could handle it, we could go ahead and leave and walk down to deck 3 since all elevators were packed. We did. As far as boarding after the ports, I walked up the stairs. But on embarkation day they didn't want you to take the stairs. We had FTTF and our room was ready and the lady didn't want us to get off at 6, they want everyone to go up to 10 to eat. They had hallways blocked so you couldn't go to your room yet, we did and our room was ready. I'm sure you could explain your situation and take the stairs, maybe with an escort.

So on embarkation day they wanted you to take the stairs? That is disappointing. I have such a phobia that I don’t think I can go on the cruise for the fact that I may not be able to take the stairs I’ve been on 3 other cruises and taking the stairs has never been as issue. So strange that they are restricting access to the stairs. Are they doing this on all ships or just Elation?

I believe it was just because the rooms weren't ready. We were one of the 1st groups to get on as we had FTTF. I'm sure if you explain it to them, it will be OK. Or if you get on later I'm sure the stairs will be open. I wouldn't let it inhibit me from going on her. She was a nice ship with great staff!

We have been on both the Fascination and the Elation out of Jacksonville, and both times people were allowed to use the stairs. Just tell anyone who says no to you, that you cannot do elevators. I would normally do the stairs, but as I said in the last post that you asked, DH can no longer do stairs so we rode the elevator. You can cruise on the Elation, no worries. really.
