Suggestions for glascow

You can pick up the hoho bus at George Square which is in the centre of the city near the main Queens Street train station, ask anyone in Glasgow and they will direct you.

It will take you round the main sights to give an orientation then you can decide what you want to go back and see.

Glasgow has literally dozens of world class museums (Kelvingrove, Gallery of Modern Art, Police Museum, tenement house showing Glasgow life, House for an Art Lover, The People Palace, Huntarian etc etc) unfortunately one of the best, the Burrell Collection is closed at the moment for refurbishment and will be to 2020.

Museums that are run by the Council in Glasgow are free. Depending on your interests at least one of the above would suit you.

There is the cathedral and a museum of religious life. The cathedral is nice enough. (It not in the same league aesthetically as for example the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona but still worth a visit)

If you like shopping then Glasgow has much to offer with lots of shops on the “style mile”. Most of the best shops are also near George Square.

The food scene in Glasgow is really good and you will definitely find something to your taste everything from couthie pubs to high end cuisine. If you like Charles Rennie MacIntosh then visit Miss Cranston’s Willlow tearoom where they have furniture in the art nouveau style

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra also has its home in the city centre and depending on when you visit you may be able to pick up a daytime concert (I am presuming you are just in for a day?). The acoustics in the RSNO are amazing and if you like classical music this is a must see.

There is lots to do, hope you enjoy it.

Which port are you in? If it is Greenock then you are not in the city and would need to come in by train or bus. Train is the quickest and would probably bring you in to the Central station which is about 5 minutes walk from George Square. https://www.scotrail.co.uk/ is the main train company and you will find timetables here.

The tearoom is right in the middle of the city https://www.willowtearooms.co.uk/

If you are in Greenock then I doubt you will be in the city for dinner but you can get some lovely lunches. And yes the salmon is good. If you like fish try Gandolphi Fish or Gamba. There is an oyster and champagne bar just off Buchanan street called Rogano they also do Scottish sea food platters in an Art Deco setting. Expensive but nice.

I agree that Glasgow has some very interesting museums. We saw the Transportation Museum and the Kellingrove Museum. but if you're not into museums I highly recommend taking an excursion out of the city. it will give you a chance to see the Highlands and the castle or two And a lake or two.
