Heathrow Terminal 2 train transfer to terminal 4

Arriving terminal 2 how easy is it to transfer to terminal 4 by train do we need a ticket ? is there a lift to platform ? if a lift can we take trolley ? what is name of train is the train easy to find and sign posted all reply's welcome thank you Aussie

This only applies if you are travelling on a through ticket and baggage has been checked to the final destination, of course.

If this is not the case (you are connecting on separate tickets or meeting someone arriving at T4, for example), you will need to make your way to Heathrow Central station, a 10 minute well signposted walk once through immigration and customs.

Free transfers operate between terminals on both rail and underground (tube) services, which are clearly signposted, but you will need to pass through gates to the platforms:

- using the tube, you need either an Oyster card or contactless payment card (the system recognises the journey and doesn’t charge)

- using the train you can get a free inter-terminal ticket from the ticket machines

So probably easiest to use the train - follow signs for Heathrow Express/TfL rail, use the Heathrow Express ticket machines (there is usually a staff member near by). There are 4 transfers an hour and they take about 5 minutes. Listen for the announcements (platform and train) to make sure you are on the correct train for T4 - it can be a little confusing.

Hi thank you for your reply we are going to terminal 4 staying over night in Premier hotel and fly out terminal 4 the following morning KLM to Amsterdam will try and take your advice re transfers Aussie

I noticed yesterday that Heathrow seems to have introduced a new colour for signs. In addition to the standard yellow and the purple for (airside) flight connections, there now seems to be a mid-blue colour for landside public transport, including inter-terminal transfers and transport into town. So this may make it even easier than it used to be - it would be a case of following the blue signs for Terminal 4.

However, I was at T5, so I don't know whether this new colour is yet at all terminals.
