West Indies Ports

While you are waiting for replies here, you might also be able to find more information about the various ports in the Ports of Call section of these boards. Viking has not yet visited these ports, so at this point, answers will be dependent on those who have already travelled there with other lines--and those you will find in abundance in Ports of Call. You might also try TripAdvisor to get an idea of what the attractions are in each port, as there might be things to see or do that are not covered by the ship's offering of excursions.

Perhaps there is already a thread. Cruising on the Viking Star in January. Are any of the West Indies Ports accessible to town or sights by foot or is a structured tour or excursion necessary? Thanks!

Angel Mom, what are the exact ports you're going to? The Caribbean has a little bit of everything! St. Maarten, for example. Walk right off the ship into town. Same thing with St. Kitts. St. Thomas depends on where you're docked. In any event, however, there are always taxis available at Caribbean ports so if you have a beach day in mind instead of a walking or bus tour of the island, you can always do that. Really, you do whatever you please on your port days. There's always one included excursion no matter where you go, but if it's not to your liking, do your own thing instead.

Thank you Din929 and Peregrina651,

We leave San Juan and visit Tortola, British Virgin Islands (Road Town, Bridgetown Barbados, St. Kitts (Basseterre),St. Martin (Philipsburg),St. Lucia (Castries), Guadeloupe (Pointe-à-Pitre),St. John’s, Antigua St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (Charlotte Amalie)... you can see it is quite port intensive!

There are some interesting excursions offered however while i will do excursions, i'm not a fan of tour buses and would rather do some on our own... but then there is always the fear that we'll get stranded someplace and miss the boat!

We are sailing the Amazon/Caribbean trip, which includes some of these ports!

We have been to some of these islands in the past, however some will be new to us and we look forward to them all.

We feel the exact same as you AngleMomCruises! Individual rather than bus whenever it makes sense. Look forward to following this thread as our trip is not until Dec 2017. So thank you in advance for advice and information!

Thanks for the response "Not a Georgia Peach". Those are the 2 ports we are not able to see several of the optional excursions for on MVJ. We will be on the Star the week after you, so hopefully your phone call will straighten things out shortly. If not, I will also get in touch with Viking. Thanks again and enjoy your vacation.
