Renting a car in Halifax and Saint John

Looking to rent a car in either or both of those cities to look around at surrounding towns. Are most places within walking distance from the port? Or do they deliver the cars? Any tips would be appreciated!

Not sure about Halifax because we just hired a taxi van outside the terminal that took us around including Peggy's Cove for a reasonable rate.

In Saint John there are a few rental places within easy walking distance of the port. We ended up walking to one that was a little further (IIRC it was Enterprise) because budget was booked up and Avis were extremely rude to us.

We rented a car at both these ports on our last cruise to the area. Both ports have car rentals within a very short walking distance from the port. I recommend you reserve online prior to arrival to ensure they will have a car for you as the vehicles are limited, plus you will get a better price. Enjoy your cruise.

We're planning to rent in Halifax. The Hertz at 1099 Marginal Road is close to the cruise port and open daily from 8 to 6. It looks to be at most a ten minute walk and in a long red annex building I saw by looking up the address on Google Earth. There are a couple other companies around as well.

Avis looked to be the closest for cruisers coming to Saint John.

When we rented in Halifax a few years ago, the Enterprise counter was inside the train depot, which is right across a parking lot from the cruise terminal.

We learned a valuable lesson on that trip -- trust but verify! We now always check the gas gauge when we pick up a rental vehicle. A few miles outside of Peggy's Cove, we heard that dreaded ding, ding, ding sound. There are no filling stations anywhere out in that area, but luckily there is cell service. We called Enterprise, told them where we were, and they said they'd send someone out with gas. We said we'd continue on to Peggy's Cove and call from there. Luckily the folks at the Visitor Information Center at Peggy's Cove keep five cans of gas for such situations. The fellow who helped us put it in the car told us it happens more often than you'd think. Ours was the last can of gas available that day.

Enterprise was great. The rental was free.

Very impressive that Enterprise did that.

Here is a map showing gas stations close to Peggy's Cove. However Cruise More Often has taught an important lesson. Check the gas before leaving town. https://goo.gl/maps/osH9tXQkTam

You will see the gas stations are at the exits from Routes 3 and 103 to the Peggy's Cove Road.
