Rare itsanita Posted October 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2017 Does anyone recall if you went though US customs at the Schiphol Airport before boarding the plane back to the US. The last couple of times we flew back to the US, we went through customs at the out of country airport, so when we arrived in the US, we did not have to go through customs again. Just curious if this is becoming a trend.
Rare VMax1700 Posted October 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2017 only in airports that have U.S. Preclearance https://www.cbp.gov/border-security/ports-entry/operations/preclearance Amsterdam is not one of them.
Cotswold Eagle Posted October 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2017 There is a centralised pre-departure clearance system for US-bound flights from Schipol, which is at gate D1 for Delta flights and E4 for others, I think. However this is the additional security check the US requires, which normally takes place at the actual gate for flights and is not the CBP pre-clearance system (as VMax1700 explains). Some folk get the two confused. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Ine Posted October 14, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2017 No US customs at Amsterdam, so you need to go through them upon arrival in the US. Indeed Delta ha a special security check at Amsterdam airport.

CruiserBruce Posted October 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Thanks for your replies. We are trying to decide if we want to enroll in the Global Entry. Whether AMS has US Immigration and Customs probably won't affect your choice of GE. GE will work wherever you go through Customs.
