Haven't done one yet, but it is on our list of "to do". Perhaps in '05, but more likely '06.

 

Have a friend who has done it twice, and raved about it both times.

 

Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, it is real easy for us to get up there on Amtrak (despite the train's on-time problems). Almost as easy from the Reno area - just hop the Zephyr down to Sacramento, and switch to the Starlight. (Connections not that good, but Sacramento does have its world class railroad museum close to theAmtrak station).

 

It looks like they have put together several good packages, with Amtrak connections. And it goes without saying, Portland has some great book stores if you like that sort of thing.

 

We stopped there this past May, on Amtrak, after going up the Left Coast to Vancouver via Victoria BC on the repositioning Sun Princess.
