Best least expensive medical and evacuation insurance

has Anyone had a good plan for the above! Not worried about cost of cruise itself. It is a short 8 day cruise of Italy. My husband is on Medicare which doesn’t cover in other countries

Try Geoblu for medical only. It does not include cancellation. It is medical only and includes evacuation. The best evacuation is Medjet Assist...but is costly and does not include medical.

I too like the idea of medjet as a supplement to insurance. It is an annual purchase for transportation not insurance. Oh, I see they have a short term offering too now.

There is a Cruise/travel Insurance board on CC:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=635

Cost is tricky because no too policies have the same coverage but one can choose the least expensive. And "best" is very personal and subjective. There are some good on-line sellers that sometimes post on that board and have great info on their sites with a variety of products and you can get quotes. Some posters on that board are very helpful too to sort out the options

We have been purchasing Medical including evacuation coverage from

Allianz Global. Had several medical claims on board and have been reimbursed from Allianz within 4-5 weeks with no problems.

You can go to their web site or talk to your T/A.

I too use Squaremouth and Insure my trip. You can make comparisons of a lot of plans and prices.

I would love to get GEO Blue but there is no coverage in my State, so I have to get medical and cancellation. We have used it three times with RoamRight (arch Insurance) and was reimbursed within 4-5 weeks. My husband also had a medical nurse escort which the Ins. Company provided and paid (in first class no less) I got to fly in coach;).

I'd recommend calling Steve or Becky at Tripinsurancestore.com. They would be my choice for advice.

Steve is one of the posters I was thinking of when I suggested the OP check the Insurance board. Several years ago I needed some policy help and all of them at Tripinsurancestore gave exceptional service.

that said, I've seen good things at insuremytrip as well but no personal experience.

each can gave slightly different "customized even slightly" policies that on the surface appear the same to set them art and provide what they believe is important. So I think any insurance purchase needs to be well researched, and I always buy some coverage despite work and CC coverage

In my business you can have the best; you can have it fast; you can have it cheap. But you can only pick two of those three.

But as a rule, best and cheap don’t go together. In my experience, insurance is not the place to go cheap, especially when you’re talking about medevac.

+1

Well said. You’ll get what you pay for - which in case of insurance may actually mean - you’ll pay but get nothing. Insurance is not in the charity business; they are in the business of collecting the fees but trying not to pay out anything (if they can get away with it).

Be aware

The insurance company not your doctor is in charge of accessing your medical condition not your on-site doctor. On a recent cruise, after a week long hospital stay in Rhodes, Greece for obstruction of the GI tract the doctor recommended that I needed to fly first class for what turned out to be a 24 hr in duration trip back to Miami. The insurance company said that they knew better then the doctors in accessing medical needs and only authorized reimbursement for ECONOMY.

The insurance would only reimburse me after I filled my claim and was forced to go out of pocket $100,000 of which they only reimbursed me $50,000.:mad::mad:

What insurance company did you use? I want to make sure I don't use them.

For the "best least expensive" insurance

consider oxymoron inc.

to add to your motto, I like to say it can cost you on the front end or cost you on the back end however the back end is usually more expensive if you need to use it.

I'm reminded of the old Fram oil filter TV commercial with the smoking auto hood being opened to reveal a mechanic who pops up and says "you can pay me now or pay me later."

  • 2 weeks later...

I want to give a big shoutout to insuremytrip.com and the Nationwide Cruise Choice policy I bought through them. Had to cancel a cruise last summer two weeks before departure due to a medical problem.

Nationwide paid 100% of my claim (which was the full cost of an expensive cruise w/business air for 2) within 2 weeks of my claim, no questions asked.

After buying lots of trip insurance and (fortunately) never using it, I was simply stunned.

Nationwide is also a super choice because you don't have to purchase within "NNN" days of deposit to get pre-existing condition coverage. It is full trip insurance, but includes medical and evacuation coverage.

I don't mean this to be a poor reflection on Nationwide as it sounds like they were absolutely super but bitter experience has taught me to read the fine print on medical evacuation insurance, whenever it is not the "Prime" reason for the policy.

The typical rider reads something along the lines of "If a required medical service is not offered at or near the location of the medical incident" transport will be provided to the closest place where it is. .

Most people want a policy which will get them "home", wherever that may be.

Are you saying that this rider is part of the Nationwide policy? Sounds like you are. If not your post is kind of misleading. Please let us know which it is. Thanks.:confused::confused:

Believe Stan't post is completely clear in that it is a warning that "typical" policies have the wording he mentioned. Absolutely no allusion to Nationwide's policy for that item ast all. There is absolutely no way to know the clauses in any policy without actually reading them as clauses can be added to and deleted from any basic policy. So, simply providing the exact name or number of a policy will not tell you what clauses are included or not included.which was said very clearly in Stan's post in that you actually "have to read the fine print" and the entire policy to know what is there.
