We would not have "bothered" anyone that had spent thousands of extra dollars for their space.

But, others abuse it and make it difficult for the rest. As to that large group, somebody should have taken action.
It's not the point that YOU don't think you would bother anyone. The point is you didn't pay for this perk and others did.

I recall reading another post from a closed thread. The poster wrote:

"It is freestyle, and if some people have no class, manners or simple civility, that is their choice.

Freestyle means I can dress like a hick if I want and have no regard for anyone around me or what they think.

And, it means I think my sweats with the holes in them are comfortable and I am on vacation, so the heck with all of you!"

Of course I disagree with that quote as most of us would. I rest my case.

To TideOne, I would have been FURIOUS had my CY experience been the same as yours - we paid a tidy sum for our A3 and I probably would have said asked the concierge if ALL those extra people were really booked in the CV's and by the way, can you get a steward to bring up a lounger for me to lay on since there's no seats? You can bet that the concierge would be checking out the situation and resolving it very quickly.

This is news to me, and I'm booked in a CV (A3) on Jade next May. I simply assumed that the Courtyard was available to me AND any guest/guests I may choose to bring on a REASONABLE basis. I don't recall seeing anything saying that I could NOT have a guest in the Courtyard so, again, this comes as a surprise to me.

While I can see both sides of the coin here (particularly if some people have abused use of the Courtyard to the detriment of those who they share it with), I'm still annoyed. I see no reason why I should not be allowed to bring a guest (or even 2) if the Courtyard is not being used, or being used but nowhere close to it's capacity. I don't see this as being a "You didn't pay for it so you can't use it" issue, I see it as being one of the benefits that come with my CV - but then being told I can't really use it, unless I want to sit quietly alone or some such thing.

Imagine if you booked a balcony cabin and invited a guest or two to join you for cocktails on your balcony, only to have some NCL "hall monitor" tell you "Sorry, while the balcony is indeed for YOUR enjoyment, your inside-cabin friend has to stay OFF the balcony.....". Ugh.

The difference is, your private balcony is just that, private for your use or whomever you wish to share it with. The courtyard is the private area to be shared among suite level guests only.

No one will say you're not permitted to invite guests to your cabin, just not to the courtyard, which is the common area for people who paid for the perk.

Enjoy your cruise!

That's where the difference of opinion comes in, I paid for the perk - but I can only enjoy it with the specific passengers who are also in CV's.

Again, I understand the issue and the problem of "fair use" for those who paid for the perk (myself included). But I'd like to be able to sit in the courtyard with a guest of MINE (certainly not an unescorted guest, and certainly not if the courtyard is too busy).

It'll be interesting to see how much use I actually make of the courtyard now. I guess I could have my guests stand on my balcony while I sit in the courtyard and we could shout back and forth to one another.........

Boat Drinks you might find it a little hard to yell to your guests if you are in the courtyard and they are on your balcony.
There is a glass wall, a hallway and your cabin seperating you from the courtyard and your balcony.
Personally I would not have had a problem with anyone bringing a couple of their friends to the courtyard and even having dinner in the courtyard.
Our problem was the massive amount of family members that seemed to think the courtyard belonged to them.
Trust me, things were said to the butler, the conceirge and others but nothing was ever resolved.
But I am glad it happened because I never would have discovered my aft penthouse suites. So much more room on my own private balcony that I don't have to share with anyone.

I think you're problem may lie with the concierge following/enforcing the rules and any other CV guest who might take issue with ANY non CV guest utilizing the courtyard.

Regardless, enjoy your cruise!

I kind of understand your frustration, but keep in mind even though you have found nothing in writing telling you guests are not allowed, NCL makes it pretty obvious that non-suite guests are not expected in the courtyard area.

You must use your room key in the elevator to get to the courtyard floor and after exiting the elevator, your room key is needed again to go from the elevator lobby to the courtyard/rooms.

We have had guest in the courtyard area most of which were in other suites anyway so it was no big deal, BUT if it was crowded or my guest(s) were making things unpleasant for others I would expect them to be kicked out.

My experience in this area really has lead me to believe most people are in this area to have some peace and quiet - 1 couple I know only left the area 3-4 times for the whole cruise.

From NCL's website:
"You’ve never seen anything quite like this before. Like an island within the Courtyard Villa complex, you'll find a secluded area outfitted with a private swimming pool, hot tub, covered Balinese-style lounge areas providing lots of shade, oversized comfortable chaise lounges, as well as a fitness area with steam room. Sink into complete relaxation and enjoyment with personal service from your butler – all you have to do is ask. There's even a retractable sunroof for year round comfort and a separate oceanview deck upstairs for more sun tanning pleasure. Best of all? This secluded area is completely private and available only to those who stay in our Garden Villas, Courtyard Villas, Deluxe Owner's and Owner’s Suites."

I am so suprised that this happened to you. I have seen Ruth, Claudio and Alex all diplomatically remove pax from the C/Y.

If the conceirge would not have done it I would have gone to the Hotel Manager. The common C/Y area is pretty much all that differentiates A3 from AB. The cost between the two are usually substantial.

I am glad you like the AD's though.

Yes, exactly - and that would be me and whomever I choose to have accompany me.

Thanks again for starting this thread, I never would have interpreted the above statment to mean I can't have a guest accompany me in the Courtyard. Now at least I've been warned.......

Hmmmm, my A3 accomodates 4 people, but there are only 3 in my party. Maybe we can get a 4th "key" made up under the name "Invited Guest"

I think you will be fine in My having guests over.

I was on the 14th floor in April and June. Both times almost nobocy used the courtyard and no one used the 15th floor sundeck. The courtyard butler laughed when I asked if it was okay to invite some family to lunch. They were desparate for some company.

As dar as the keys I had another made for my mother in law no questions asked. I told them she had to come up to babysit. Not that anyone cared.

I think it depends how much activity is up there, how well everyone behaves and please at the end, remember to tip!

It never ceases to amaze me how and why some people find it impossible to just accept the rules as stated and follow them. Instead, these people are either always looking for ways around them or just outright think the rules don't apply to them and disregard them entirely.

If the rules are "This secluded area is completely private and available only to those who stay in our Garden Villas, Courtyard Villas, Deluxe Owner's and Owner’s Suites." then that's the rule.

Why make other people, whether paying CV passengers, wrongfully invited guests, or, crewmembers feel awkward by pushing the issue? Why cause a problem? If you're a CV passenger, you can:

1) Invite whoever you want to your cabin ONLY, whenever you want
2) Use and enjoy the courtyard along with other CV passengers ONLY
3) Join your friends and/or family, who are NOT CV passengers, in totally public areas of the ship.

Those are the rules. That's what's fair.

Oh, so your rudeness was intentional, my mistake - I assumed we crossed posts.

You can try to "spin" this that I'm trying to "ignore a rule", but it's a waste of time. I've already pointed out that I never would interpret the text above to prohibit authorized users of the Courtyard from having a guest with them.

We were in an OS in March and traveling with friends in mini suites.
WE were entitled to the Courtyard, they were not.
WE never, EVER used the courtyard, because they were more
important to us then the "private courtyard". We would never
have expected the rules to be bent or to make the assumption
that because we are older and quiet, it would be OK.
For people to be subjective, as to what is busy, or what is noisy
is crazy. If you don't pay you don't play...simple as that.
