10 dollar minimum on casino tables on the MAGIC

Just back from the Magic on a rare 4 day. I was very disappointed that all the table games had a 10 dollar minimum bet. Not sure if they jacked it up because the Magic doesn't do 4 days normally. Roulette 10 dollar minimum, Blackjack and Poker 10 dollar minimum bet. That priced me out of spending much money in the Casino. Is this the case on any other ships?

Glad to see they now have upped the minimum bet

I like lower minimum tables for my budget but it also encourages people to throw money down that don't really know strategies, etc. I'm thinking Blackjack only in regards to how novice players can impact a whole table.

I'll pony up the extra $ to play regardless.

every carnival cruise i have been on all the table minimums were $5. my last cruise was on 1/24/15 on the glory and the table minimums were $5. i will be on the pride in 16 days and will be playing in the casino and hopefully the minimum will still be $5.

I'm wondering if that 4 day cruise on the magic could of been a premier cruise and they jacked up the table minimum because they knew they had a large amount of gamblers on the cruise.

The last time I was in Vegas, one of the trendier casinos (I think it was the Encore or Wynn) was using the following strategy regarding table minimums: If the tables were empty, the would lower the minimums to $10. As soon as someone sat down, the would almost immediately raise the minimum to $25. The originally person who sat down would be grandfathered in to the $10, but every person who sat down after him would have to bet at least $25. This strategy is based upon the notion that gamblers prefer to gamble at a full table rather than an empty, but the casino was having a hard time attracting people to the empty tables at $25 minimums.

On the cruises I have been on, I find that the casino will test the waters on the 1st night -- putting out some higher minimum tables. If they get any traction, they will remain with the higher minimums. But if it is danger of becoming a ghost town, the minimums will drop fairly quickly. If you prefer to have lower minimums, don't get suckered in to playing above where you feel comfortable. The minimum bet will either come down eventually, or your lungs and bank account will thank you for staying away from the casino.

I much prefer $5 minimums as well but even at the casinos here in Louisiana it is very hard to find a table with a $5 minimum. Every once in a while you do find one but it usually during odd hours when not many people are there. Maybe you could ask the pit boss and he could tell you if they do it during port hours or maybe they could open a table if you have enough people interested and the table isn't being used.

I hope the tables are still $5 on the Pride as we also are going on 3-29. It is a premier cruise as well!! :D Can't wait!!

My last 3 cruise's all in the last 18 months , on The Dream ,Magic and Breeze the Min's have all been $10.00 Blackjack and Craps

Well that is interesting. I was on the Breeze 12 months ago and played craps every day on an 8 day cruise and the minimum was always $5. It was $5 minimum on Pride five months ago too.

With their 6/5 odds for blackjack they are not getting $10 a pop from me. Go back to 3/2 and I will think about it.

Amen. Horrible, terrible, awful game. The house advantage is 8 times worse in 6:5 BJ than 3:2.

Change seems small, but isn't.

It's huge. Just don't play it, and let them know why.

My experience is that there has always been a single $5 blackjack table (or $6 on RCC ships) .

This table is usually full with a group behind them waiting somewhat impatiently for a seat.

It always seems to be a smoking table , except on Celebrity where the casino is smoke-free.

We just got off the Regal Princess and the above observations held. Two things were slightly annoying.

First they allowed one person ,at times, to take two spots . Secondly ,there were some bigger

bettors at the table making bets of 25 and more ,which was their right .

It almost seems that providing a five dollar table is seen as a public service by the casinos .

Personally I like the option of being able to bet as little as $5 if I choose to . Twice I sat at

the $10 table ,to get a seat or avoid the smoke but this was not my preference.

I absolutely spend less time in the casino when there is no 5 dollar option.

I'm one of those people taking two spots. Why would they care if someone was betting two spots?

I was on the Breeze in January and they had raised the tables to $10. What really had me hacked off was that on Roulette the chips were $2. I'd rather use 10 $1 chips and spread them out a bit. I wouldn't play Roulette for that reason. They were still playing Let It Ride with $5 minimum though. Thats what I play most.

I've only taken one cruise on the Emerald Princess. There were no (as in none) blackjack machines. Are there any BJ machines on Carnival ships or any other ships for that matter? I especially like the Shufflemaster (or similar) machines where up to 6 people could play. Seems you can have fun with them without losing too much too fast and you don't have to tip them for taking your money.

Blackjack was a $10 minimum unless you played , I forget what they called it but there were no queens and it was a $5 minimum. Maybe they called it "Fun BJ?"

I could always find a $5 BJ in Vegas, even $3 sometimes , and someone to bring a free drink too.
