Is having a casino onboard important to you?

All of the Seabourn ships I have been on had a casino, including the triplets, that was adjacent to the Club. How much it is used varies by the cruise, one cruise on the Pride a few years ago every night it was pretty busy. Other cruises I rarely have seen anyone in it. Since they don't offer craps I don't spend any time in it.

And, my original question was, "Is having a casino onboard important to you?" The intrusive issue is another issue. I thought the casino was intrusive on Encore and Ovation--but others may not see it the same way. I understand that. We all see things differently.

Ah yes, I did answer the question a few days ago.

The conversation has moved on slightly though, and those of us who haven't yet been on the new ships are curious to know how the casino and the Club look on those ships. Well, I'm curious, I shouldn't speak for Chairsin and Roxburgh. :D

Against my better judgement, I just booked a cruise on Ovation today, so I'll be able to make my own comparison in a few months.

i suppose the question might be....if you got am email today from seabourn - saying on your next cruise which you have paid for- the casino has been replaced by a jazz bar/ speaking lounge/ classical music/ ballroom dance lounge/ area......would you be happy or sad...would you think to cancel....

A jazz bar sounds great to me. Can it serve Nordic style food on small plates too?

But Roxburgh is right. The bottom line is the bottom line!

absolutely agree - i would not pay more for not having a casino - but as other people have said here a lack of one would put them off selecting seabourn...

however if it was a loud casino and i felt i couldn't enjoy the areas around it - then would feel my use of areas limited because of that one area and that might stop me from future bookings..

I am not a Casino person at all. However, even though the Casino on Encore is open near the Club Bar area, we have used the Club, sitting near the dance floor and it has had no impact whatsoever.

My opinion, it is not important if a Casino is there.......I rarely go to shows, but I am happy for others to enjoy them.

We had Dancing on the Deck tonight and it was a wonderful night. A lovely light breeze to cool us with a nice steady ship. Ross and the entertainment team were fantastic. Many people up dancing over various decks and enjoying themselves. Heading towards Monte Carlo after a lovely day in Ajaccio.

I think they should convert the Sushi bar on the new ships into something useful.

I detest sushi.

+1

Would much prefer a causal, quality food option alternative to the "dress" dining venues. Maybe serve quality sandwiches, artisan pizza and/or chef-level takes on coffee shop favorites. Perhaps do a license deal with Cracker Barrel for a Seabourn-branded Caviar Barrel...:cool:

On topic, I'd be more interested in the casino if it had a sports book.

I came off the Odyssey wondering where the Casino was, I had not noticed it even though I had been to the Club several times. On the Encore it was far more visible but I agree with others, it still had minimal impact on the club.

However, I disagree with other comments re the Sushi Bar, it was very nice, and nice to have another casual venue to dine. I do agree, that one either likes Sushi or doesn’t. Just nice to have choices.

I anticipate having several meals at Sushi. It sounds like a wonderful option. To each his/her/their own - and that goes for casinos, too.

Which was the point I was making. We each have our likes and dislikes and our preferences. But we also need to respect that others may have different ones. Just because some have little or no interest in a casino does not mean that it should not exist on the ship or that it should be effectively invisible.

Roxburgh I did understand your point re sushi :)........same as my point re going to the shows. I think there are various things that are important to some and not to others, and choice is good. I think The Retreat is probably the main area that most agree is wasted space.....but even then there might be some who enjoy it.

Carolfay, we had Sushi last night and it was delicious. Very fresh tasting and I enjoyed my Sake to go with it, my husband enjoyed his Saporo beer. You can have wine as well if you wish. Marie, who is Japanese, is the Restaurant Manager and she was very helpful guiding us to try some more unusual dishes, including a seaweed salad that was a combination of different seaweeds. Looking forward to going back another evening.

We will go for lunch some time this cruise. Previously they just had Bento boxes with a choice of Salmon, Chicken or Mushroom. Now they have included Ramen Noodles and Gyoza dumplings.

Bobtails, the Dancing on Deck was lots of fun as I mentioned. As this is a back to back combined cruise they are likely to have another next week. We will go again as we find them fun and the dancing is a good way to get some exercise in to balance all the good food you get to eat.

thanks julie - i will look forward to the dancing.

and it's good to know the casino on odyssey is not as invasive as it might have sounded on here . i don't want things to be invisible - but in an each to their own way/ right to swing your fist as far as my face - when one area takes over - the other areas suffer.

but seems at least odyssey not an invasive concept.

I think they should have two sushi bars and a counter where you can slurp noodles because that's what we love.

I hope I correctly understood the tongue-in-cheek-ness of your post.

We really enjoyed the Sushi restaurant on the Encore last year. Most nights there was a 30 minute or more wait as it was very popular, at least on that cruise. Did not get a chance to try lunch but glad to hear they are expanding the lunch offerings.

More sashimi on the menu but on request from a few of our group, they did cook several dishes which were not on the menu. The staff in the sushi bar at the time were very obliging.
