Do Any Newer Ships Do Short Cruises?

Recommended Posts

My husband is very resistant to cruising. He insists that he won't do a cruise longer than 5 days because he gets "bored". I think he would change his mind if he could sample a balcony cabin. The "older" ships' balcony cabins are the superduper deluxe suites and very expensive. I need a regular balcony for 4 or 5 days.

I live in Florida, so it needs to be a Florida port. RCCI would be great, but I'm open to all lines. Anyone know of any?

I think the Disney Ship(forget which one) is the newest ship you'll find doing the short hops (3 and 4 days). It leaves out of Port Canaveral. Not sure if it is the best cruise to get your DH into wanting to cruise longer because most of the activities are geared towards families. Plus Disney charges prices that would probably be compariable to suites and deluxe oceanviews on a ship like the Soverign. Good luck! Still can't belive the word bored comes out of a person on a cruise.

Traditionally, the cruise lines use their older ships for the shorter trips so it would be very difficult to find a newer ship doing a 5 day itinerary. The best thing I can suggest is Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas which is their newest ship. In the fall(definitely November and December) the ship will be doing alternating 6 and 8 day cruises from Fort Lauderdale. Just convince your husband to go for 6 days and you will be able to sail on the latest addition to the fleet and you can get the balcony cabin you want.

Sometimes you can get on the 1-2 day mini cruises that the new ships have when they first come over before their normal cycle. Also when a ship goes in for maintenance, they will sometimes have a short mini cruise if they finish ahead of schedule. You probably won't find any during the summer, since the lines want their ships full during the peak high price season.

Check Enchantment of the Seas. out of Ft Lauderdale.
It's a Vision class ship (Newer than the Sovereign Class, but not as new as the Voyager class)
Yes, it does have balconies.
It does alternating 4 and 5 day w Carib trips.
It is a very popular ship and rarely has deeply discounted cabins, so if you see one, grab it.
