Mauritius Cruise Port

We will be disembarking a ship in Mauritius, to transfer to a hotel on the other side of the Island. I have read that not all taxis are allowed to go into the port and the port taxis charge exorbitant prices.

Does anyone know how far it is to the port gate, if our taxi can only pick us up there?

I can now answer this myself as we have been given instructions from the taxi company. One of us will need to go out of the port and find our taxi (driver will have our name on a board). That person then needs to get into the taxi and the taxi will be allowed to enter the port to pick up our luggage and any remaining passenger(s).

So, yes pre booked taxis cannot automatically come into the port to pick up, but can if accompanied by a cruise passenger who they have previously picked up. Presume it will be a good idea to have proof of being from the cruise ship, but will likely have been seen going out of the port anyway.

Thought anyone searching for this port may find this info useful as there is very little detail available.

  • 1 month later...

Have now returned from our cruise/hotel holiday.

The taxi driver who we had booked for our hotel transfer was at the port with our name on a board. Seems they allow drivers with bookings by named passengers to go into the port on a bus. Once we met him he asked us to wait to one side while he returned to the port gate and brought his taxi in to the port. All worked well, but without a pre booking, you will need to use the port taxis. Had no personal experience of using them, but doubt they would be cheap.

As we had to leave the ship at 10.00am, we had asked for a stop off or two on the way to our hotel on the east coast and spent some time in Pamplemousse Gardens and had a snack/drink in a food court of a shopping centre on the way to our hotel, which worked well. Just a shame we got drowned in heavy rain showers in Pamplemousse - but still glad we went. Took umbrellas with us everywhere in the Indian Ocean ports and they were very useful - as sunshades as well as for rain :)
