Well, kay and cruzingtchr are getting our new year off to a rip roaring start in a good way....lets keep that trend a going. Hope that everyone's new years celebrations were safe and the new year finds everyone in good health.
Step mother-in-law's mother died the same day as Kickers mother-in-law so off today for a funeral....but she did live to be 93 and her health had deteriorated in the last month to where she didn't know any of her kids so it was a blessing as much as a death can be a blessing.
Kay, I take it that since you are cruising by your lonesome that John didn't or couldn't take advantage of the buyouts??? Just as well anyway if that were the case as he is too young to retire anyway......so how does that work when you are going solo??? Do you share a cabin with one of your cruising friends??? Not trying to be nosy but don't know the intricacies of cruising like most of you being somewhat of a cruise newbie and not looking like I am going to add to my cruise inventory any time soon unless DW decides that she wants to come with.
John has three more vacation days left until May 31, so he can't go on a week long cruise before then. I know many people going on Navigator, and decided to just go solo, only me in my cabin. I did chose a cabin just across the hallway to a couple of ladies we know(mother/daughter). We have also linked our reservations and will be at the same dining table for dinner. John and I have cruised with them a couple of times. I also know at least three other couples going. There is quite a large group of cc people going to a beach in Cozumel together, so I'm doing that. In Falmouth, I'll probably just walk around with the two other ladies and maybe have a drink and get back on the ship. I haven't decided yet about Grand Cayman......depends on if I can be a third wheel with others going to the beach(or I may just hop in a taxi with a lot of other cruisers and just go to my favorite beach there). I do have to pay a little more going solo(not as much as it would be for two going), but I got an interline rate, so I'm ok with it. You asked about sharing a cabin, I did that with a lady John and I met she and her husband on Allure in August. She and I left the guys home in November and did share a cabin on Jewel of the Seas. She and her husband were also back cruising on Independence with us in December. If she could get off work, she'd love to be going with me again, but she's a cpa and can't get time off until after April 17. We probably will cruise again together, since John and her husband are both "ok" with it. Some husbands are a little more controlling....
I have several widowed friends, but they have never cruised and both have some health problems. My cousin's widow has cruised with me a couple of times, but she also is having some health issues.
John will receive his buyout personalized packet in mid February and must make the decision whether or not to take it by April 1. Dates of leaving are May 31, 2013, November 30, 2013 or May 31, 2014. John is only 61, so the insurance has us more concerned than anything else. We also now have two homes with all the repairs and tax/insurance for both and the mortgage for one. It is a lot to think about, and he hasn't decided, yet.
John and I will probably go on Liberty of the Seas in March on a four night cruise to use up the rest of his vacation days.
