walking from Monastiraki to Acropolis.

We thought we might attempt the Metro, all the posts make it sound quite easy! If we get off at Monastiriki then we wont have to change to Red line, and it doesn,t appear to be too far to walk to Acropolis area. Could anyone advise me on which direction to follow , we would like to wander around the Plaka and Syntagma square. Thanks.

Its not far at all!

Exit Monistitaki metro station, turn right, cross the main road into Monistiraki Square.

Take a right off the square either to the right of the Monistiraki TRAIN station (not the metro) which has all the tourist shops, or to the left (and up a wee bit) from the train station which follows the tracks on the left and has loads of cafes on your right.

Once you hit the end of this road you are at Thisseo station. Turn left and cross the tracks and wander up to the cafes. Turn left again and follow the road up to the Acropolis (on your left in the distance). If you like turn left through the fence gates at somepoint and you can approach the acropolis from the enclosed green areas rather than wandering all the way up the road (which is pedestrianised anyway). It is a pleasant area. Total time from metro to Acropolis at a medium walk: about 20 minutes.

Enjoy! :)

There is no need to go to Monastiraki and double back to Thission station from there. You can just get off the train at Thisseion station and walk up from there.Of course in this case the pedestrian walk is to the right of Thisseion station.

I have been studying my street map and other posts, and have decided to, get off at Thissio station, walk along the "Antiquities Promenade" around the outskirts of "Acropolis" into the "Plaka" area, and from there back to Monastiriki station. Am I correct in thinking that this a good route to take? If so how far is this?

as Lynnnch said, the acropolis is in view most of the time so it's hard to get lost. We totally were off track, but we still made it ! When we left Monastirki station we turned left instead of right and just started walking up the hill. We kept wondering if we would make it, but at some point it seems that all trails lead to the acropolis. I think our trail was harder than it needed to be but we made it, so what the heck.

When we got back to the station we realized the next changing of the guard was in 15-20 minutes so again we thought "lets try to find it". We made it and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
